    Good evening, everyone. Reading the post about all of the work that Weesa had to do to get things moving again for work... They don't pay you enough. :thumbsup:

    I have been noticing an abundance of a fine sooty dust everywhere in the house lately. I know that the woodstove will always leak a tiny bit but I didn't think that it was that bad. Last year I had added a register to a return duct near the woodstove and would open it and run the recirculation fan to draw the warm air into the upstairs. I covered the duct with some thick universal air filter material. ( It looks like astro turf) I noticed a bunch of sooty dirt on the filter, so I pulled the filter off and found it to be clogged with soot. I then pulled off the register and saw that it was caked over with the same sooty dust. I then pulled the air handler filter and found it to be caked solid with the same crap....:(

    I made a new filter and put it back into the air handler. I needed something to plug the hole in the air duct where the register used to be. This is what I came up with.







    This counts as a repair, right?? :D

    I will have to find a better solution, but this will work for now. I couldn't believe how much soot the damn woodstove pukes out.

    I used to have a similar setup on my basement wood stove and had the same problem. Never solved it but now I have a propane fireplace insert in the living room and don’t use the wood stove much anymore. Why? Well, because I’m over 50.
