That standard is now owned by SAE, probably to not have it tied specifically by Tesla. Any company that wants to use the NACS standard will pay SAE, not Tesla.

True, i was thinking more along the lines of the entire supercharger network being akin to gas stations, and those superchargers you have to pay Tesla directly to utilize, which Ford has done.

Tesla has 50,000+ superchargers that are effectively gas station equivalents, but can only be utilized by making a deal with Tesla.

They use those in part to pay for R&D in the software/hardware space. AI and robotics for automation in the driving and manufacturing world plus the crossover of AI/machine learning applications for their camera based tracking. Lots more than cars and batteries.

Oh absolutely more than cars and batteries but Tesla's primary products are EVs, Solar, and Battery Backup.

It’s the total after the manufacturers total but before the dealer creates the final total. Got it.

That is correct. But that is like saying Amazon's primary product was books back in the day. While true it does not show the true picture of the company.

Tangentially related to Tesla/BEV topic, I think solid-state battery tech will be one of the next biggest breakthroughs in the relative near future. Toyota keeps promising they're nearly there with their R&D but I haven't seen anything market ready yet.

EV's, cellphones, renewable energy storage. Basically anything currently using a LI battery will be revolutionized.

Toyota has shown their Solid State prototype cells so to me thats a bigger leap forward. Also a deployment schedule for their EV's. One of which is a pickup. 3 models coming to the US or rather built in the US in 2026 non Solid State batteries though.

Toyota has been claiming their SS batteries are 2-3 years away for the past decade. That shit is vaporware for investors to cope with the fact Toyota has fallen way behind in the relatively new BEV market. The company with the edge on R&D into better battery options and cells is Tesla. Toyota was too busy wasting R&D money on dumb shit like Hydrogen.

Regardless, there's enough big players in the solid state game that it's no longer a question of "if", and I find that very exciting.

Here's a pretty dense article from SAE if anyone's interested in a long read about which solid state companies are working with which auto manufacturers. It does mention Toyota aiming for 2028 production ready batteries.

Chevy’s Volt was the same series hybrid design as the ramcharger.
like all good designs from GM, it was killed off way too soon.

The car keeps track of when the gas engine was least used and will run on gas if the fuel has been sitting in the tank for a month or so. I’d assume that Ram designed that into the truck as well

He’s banned from posting in the 4th gen forum. It seems a bit ridiculous just for talking about trucks.

While everyone stays surprisingly civil here, it's pretty hard to have constructive conversation about anything on the 4g. Some people just keep showing up vomiting the same stuff over and over. I'm glad we are staying to see some actual 4g specific things pop up.

I’m not sure. Are we banning people with differing opinions?
