How bad is this rust? Looking at a used 2006 4runner to get by till Adams figures out if they total or repair the tacoma? It seems to have been coated poorly and some rusted pieces come off easily, and I could feel rust on the inside of the frame. It has the 4.7 V8, which i really like, and around 125k miles. IS it likley to last 4-5 years? Rest of the car is rust free.

I passed on it. The frame was crumbling. It was covered up with black paint!

Looking increasingly likely Adams Toyota and the insurance company will total the Tacoma. Repair estimates is currently at $37k.

I really loved my Tacoma. But for now I will get this 4runner for my dogs and use the Tundra as a truck when I need. The 4runner works better for my big dogs (I will remove the rear seats).

I want to wait and see how the manual transmission 4th gen drives like. Hopefully, it should have better low end torque with the turbo. If I like that, maybe I will get that in a year or two.

But I have known to be stupid before, so don't be surprised if I get another turd gen sooner!

They put it on the lift and let me see the underneath. There is some surface rust but otherwise the frame is sound. I tapped a hammer everywhere and no crumbling unlike the white one.

I put a deposit on it. Waiting for them to change the timing belt. Hopefully have it this weekend.

 

I don’t think you could convince me to buy a 3rd gen now that they’ve showed gen 4. It sure seems like a much improved powertrain

 

It drives like a dream, even compared to a tuned 3rd gen.

Confirmed, the 23 6MT Pro Solar Octane is a total loss. They don't think they can straighten the cab enough to meet Toyota's specifications. The frame, powertrain etc. is fine. I know nothing about trying to salvage a car, but I would be interested in knowing if I buy it back from the insurance firm, what would be the best way to have it fixed? I am assuming it would have a salvage title and I would likely have to get some special insurance for it.
