Yeah, I called up my local Toyota dealer who has an on site body shop...they said I should have the adjuster come out and produce an estimate before bringing it down there, so I did. The adjuster came out yesterday, looked it over, I handed her a parts estimate I'd put together, and she went back to the office to put her estimate together. Came in at about $9K, but with all aftermarket CAPA parts...which is unacceptable. The estimate also reflected my $1500 deductible, which means they're trying to apply this against my collision/comprehensive coverage on my policy, rather than the liability coverage of the other person's policy...so I'm trying to sort that out right now. It's going to be a battle I think...which is fine, I have time.

Yeah there is a statute of limitations I think it’s 2 years or so, at least in California to settle the claim. Once it edges closer to 6 months the claims manager pressures the adjuster to close the case. Otherwise their case load gets too heavy.

It'll be handled long before that I hope.

A few years back my silverado was stolen out of the driveway...thieves towed it a few blocks away and chopped all the cats off. I recovered the truck and since no bodywork, opted to fix it myself. Insurance paid for it, but again...a battle. The first estimate was for replacement cats for a grand am and a blazer, both of which had been discontinued...I made a list of what was needed, sent it over and they re-did their estimate to about $3K more than mine, which would have totaled the truck. I knew mine was correct because I'd already fixed it for that. They finally agreed to my estimate and paid me for the repairs, but then a year later the DMV got mad at me because I never turned in the license plates and went through the "reconstructed vehicle" bullshit...because the assholes at the insurance company totaled it anyway and notified the DMV, even though they were not supposed to. It took a while but I got it sorted out.

This is why I'm trying to get all the details sorted out before anything gets started...I don't want any surprises down the road.
