Been a long day, started out with a squirrel who decided to chew a hole in the vinyl siding I was able to get that repaired with some scrap siding I had.

Then this afternoon my old, diabetic dog decided to develop vestibular syndrome That’s basically doggie vertigo. He couldn’t stand or walk because the room was spinning, that of course lead to some nausea and puking. His eyes were jerking pretty bad from the nystagmus. As of a little while ago he can stand and walk somewhat. He’s still wobbly and is pulling to the right, I have to make a towel sling under him to help with balance and guide him in a straight line.

He’s sleeping now and I’m not far behind. Hoping for more improvement in the morning.

It was a good night. I heard him get up about 0100, he was able to walk with the sling to go pee which is good. He ate a milk bone and went back to sleep for the night. Walking better this morning, still pulling to the right.

If he will eat breakfast I will be really relieved as I can give him a full dose of insulin then If not we will need to go to the vet

That brings back some of the challenges we had. My son was about 3 months old and my wife who is a pharmacist had to figure out the insulin dosing since our vet had no experience with large dogs. Our dally was 110 lbs. Maybe the world's largest Dalmation. So she had my son in one arm and had to run out with the dog to get a test strip in his pee stream to see what the blood sugar levels were then calculate the insulin dose. Then had to give him insulin shots at 6, 12 and 6 every day. Any time we left the house we had to work with that schedule. Kind of rough at times. Then at times he would get "stuck". One time I was walking him in the snow at night and he got stuck. Got the karo in and had to pick him up and start carrying him home. We were about 1/2 mile from home. After about 100 yards he recovered and walked the rest of the way home. Loved our Dally but would not want to go thru that again.

Doggie diabetes is an adventure for sure. My dog isn’t that big, thank goodness, only about 65#. We do twice a day insulin, morning and evening meal time. He’s one of those dogs that constantly runs a high glucose reading but seems to be getting along fine. We have seen some “stuck” issues too, only for a few seconds and he comes out of it. Really seems more like an arthritis issue than a glucose problem with us. We have a squeeze bottle of karo in the pantry just in case.

Meet Dozer, as much as I didn’t want another, he helped me through the hardest time in my life so now I’m stuck with him.

6-Coffee!!! But Maxx out at a cup and a half and even that is too much!!! Don’t invite me over for a cup or I will have your house painted, an addition put on, your yard mowed, your landscaping revamped, and your house reorganized all before you have finished your first cup.

7-I have never been a fan of bacon
However, the older I get, I will eat a piece here and there.

8-Don’t give a shit

9-Would rather not have it, but don’t know any different so not strong feelings on this.

10-Oh boy, here’s where things go really south…….. mentally prepare for what’s coming…..

I don’t like steak

11-F

12-MAYO!!!!!

13-IF I had to choose, Star Wars, but neither do much for me.

It’s a good morning! Doggo ate his breakfast and drank water so I was able to give him a full dose of insulin. He is walking without the sling, just needs some guidance to keep it in a straight line. He still has some nystagmus buts it’s pretty slow so that means the room spinning has improved for him.

Rain has also stopped too. Today is starting to look pretty good
