Hey and thanks for any help in advance. I’m trying to upgrade the rear speakers in my 2019 TRD sport with JBL. My son’s constantly asking me to turn up the volume so he can hear better in the back. I upgraded the dash speakers and offset the overall system towards the back since the new speakers overpowered everything. When my son ask me to turn up the volume for him I offset the system even more towards the back and turn it up for him. I must have misread something and bought the kickers for the rear, but the 4 ohms problem makes it quieter. The opposite of what I wanted. I know to get great sound if need new amp and speakers and lots of Tylenol for all the headaches that would come with it. But is there a simple speaker switch out that would help bring up the rear audio without me having to offset the system all the way to the back? I saw there were some JBL 2.3ohm speakers that we’re discontinued that might help, but is there anything else?

The jbl speakers, with 2.3 will help. All speakers with the factory jbl are 2.0 ohm speakers. There is a few threads on this, if you search. I up graded mine bank in 19, was a 18 sport with jbl. Sold it a year ago, so don't have info. I followed the few threads. One member has good write up on it. He used some jbl speakers and another brand. His name is RyanDCLB. Check out his threads, or message him.

The OE head unit hardly puts any watts to the rear by design, there are many complaints on it. So I don't think any speaker upgrade will help,, you have to start at the source.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t realize the lack of sound in the back was by design. That explains the tiny ass speaker in there. I was honestly surprised how small it was. It was like they put in a tweeter, but forgot the rest of the speaker.

I’ll look up RyanDCLB post. I might have seen it before when I upgraded the front speakers, but couldn’t find it again.

It actually helps quite a bit, I was surprised on how much it did with JBL.

    DUDE! Check out https://trailgridpro.com/

I bought an alpine head unit from them, they basically take the unit out of the box, hook everything up so it’s plug and play for your truck (year, options, (jbl/non-jbl), steering wheel buttons etc) and pack it up for shipment.

I’ve also seen a few spots on their site for speaker sets and/or amplifier upgrades.

I’m extremely happy with my purchase. Check them out on YouTube too, lots of informational and install videos…
    Good luck with your search!

I can also attest to the oem head unit being a common source for audio problems. After upgrading mine it made me appreciate the factory jbl system.

    wireless CarPlay doesn’t hurt either.

After seven years of ownership, I just had DynaMat installed under the carpets, behind the rear seat and on both insides of all four doors for highway sound reduction. I find my Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix CD's sounding pretty damn good now. Even the audio shop guys who did the work had trouble trying to better the sound without spending lots of money.
Decent sound starts with a clean palette.

I am also looking at swapping out OEM JBL Speakers in my’21 TRD PRO
/ JBL Premium (cough, cough) w/ sub. In order to do this and not fry the JBL Amp, I need to confirm output and impedance of JBL Amp dedicated to the sub. I read in attached thread that it is 55 w per channel at 2 Ohms for a total of 110 watts / 2 Ohms. Would anybody be able to confirm? If incorrect, does anyone have the correct specs? Appreciate the expertise!:rockband:

I do see that the thread that I attached is for ‘13 Highlander NOT ‘21 Tacoma TRD Pro - so those figures could be wrong.
