I personally drive a 23 Trd-Off-road with 5 foot box. Now I noticed the Canadian 24 Tacoma Sport and Off-road models now come predominately with 6 ft boxes. Only the manual and upgrade off-road have 5ft boxes.
In the Us it’s the opposite, mostly all sport and off-road models have 5ft boxes. I personally feel that Tacomas with 6ft boxes look too long and stretched out. So why is Toyota Canada trying to force us to get the 6 foot box ?

I was hoping to get a 2024 with the six foot bed but it's super hard to find in the US... at least the double cabs in sport or sr5

Canadians use their Tacomas more as trucks and the 6 foot bed gets actual "truck" usage???

The double cab short bed outsells the double cab long bed 10 to 1 here in the United States. We use our trucks for cars.

I wish that our trim levels ( short box) were the same here in Canada as yours in the US.

Take a look at the used Tacoma listing in your area on Autotrader.ca, etc. Seems 80-90% are DCLB.

40% of the trucks in my local Toyota off-road club are DCLB, even though the extra length is disadvantaged on the trail.

I see more 6ft box 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas here in B.C. mine is DCLB, no way do i want a 5ft box. So glad Toyota is still letting us choose a 6ft box.

Toyota Canada is basically making the 6ft box the default. If you want a 5ft box you have to go manual transmission or pay an extra 11k for the upgrade package.

^Seems that's been the de facto case in Canada for many years now based on customer choice. I suspect DCLB with a locker will be welcomed by many, even though you and I don't want a trail limo.

Did I mention the sway bar disconnect (SDM) will be offered only with the OR hybrid in Canada?

During the 3rd Gen era, I ended up getting 6 new Tacomas. First one was the Trd Dc manual with 5ft box and the rest were all TRDDC off-road with 5ft box. Now the 2024 Trd off-road comes standard with 6ft box. That’s very disappointing to me!

Is the reason for the 5ft box parking garage related or do you do a lot of off trail driving and appreciate the shorter wheelbase?
Just curious , seems as though if you want a truck you would want the most space for the truck part.

In Toyota's view: 6 new Tacomas in 7 years? Extra $11k for the OR Premium Pkg shouldn't too hard to swing then...

The main reason for the 5ft box is looks and parking. To me the double cab with 6ft box looks stretched out and aesthetically not good IMO. Also more difficult to park.
I was fortunate to be able to get a new Tacoma every year and the advantage was I work at the Toyota plant in Ontario so with the discount and high resale value my lease payment remained low after each transaction. My last 2 trades I even received cash back since the used market was so high due to Covid.

I’d assume Canadians like longer trucks. I live in Maine and see Canadian F150 XTRs all the time and they’re almost always a crew cab 6.5 box. Maybe market demands are different there
