God luck with the hand surgery, I've put it off for years hopefully it works out. I severed the tendon of my right index finger. It turned out ok. Now I should have either a wrist replacement or fusion. But putting it off till I can't do anything with it.

I know what you mean about putting it off. I hate doctors and medical procedures. But, I have been dealing with this for about 18 months now and want to move forward. I had the cortisone shots back in November and they did not help much. Now, I just want to get the surgery over with and hopefully get some of my grip strength back so that I can comfortably ride my mountain bike again.

So what is wrong. I have a level 4 collapsed wrist. I was using a whole saw bit in a 1/2" drill it caught several times during a day and it swelled up went to the Dr was told they wanted to do a carpelectomy destroy the nerves and double plate the wrist. Rendering it useless. I got a second opinion that guy said do a shot once in a while and put it off along as possible. About 4 months ago I had a prozone shot it took almost all the swelling and pain away for a couple days but somehow I got cellulitis in it. Rare but it can happen. If it wasn't for that it would have been a game changer. I see you are from California
This treatment is available around there
It may be found at a place that offers alternative treatments. My swelling is down but I still have some localized pain at the injection site
I have some weird stuff that goes on with my body sometimes. Shit that should heal fast doesn't and vice versa. Not everyone fits in the same box.

I have “trigger thumb” in both thumbs. The A1 pulley, like a loop, has a tendon that slides through that is severely inflamed. Imagine a rope with a knot in it trying to slide through a loop. It gets cought up then “pops” through causing pain. They are going to cut open the A1 pulley to release the tension. Dr says I should fully recover in about 4-6 weeks. My sister is a physical therapist that specializes in hands. She has had me doing all of the non surgical alternatives over the last year and a half. These have had minimal effect.

I actually requested the surgery at my last visit. I just want to get busy living.

Nice both my wife and I have had that done , not on the thumb . I had it on my 4th finger, my wife had her middle finger done . The only reason I mentioned that other shot was if it wasn't for the infection I would have gotten 80% back without much pain, as it is I got 50% of the lost mobility along with some pain reduction.
That trigger finger will do great.

Well I had to wait till the weekend for this round of work on the bench. So the first order of work was to take apart the bench top, flip it over and move it to the top of the old bench and set the legs in place to do some layout for the bench top counter bolts I'll be using.20240217_151247.jpg
Made sure the bolts will be clear of the vise, dowels, and legs
    20240217_151300.jpg
These are the counter top bolts I'll be using, a little heavier than most I've seen. 5/16 stud.
    20240217_151325.jpg
The eraser was my most used tool for this step. Made lots of changes and mistakes.
    20240217_151347.jpg
I moved the leg in a little bit so the bolts wouldn't be close to the edge
    20240217_151406.jpg
These bolts will help to keep the top closed up but I can still take it apart if need be.
For fun I weighed one of the leggs and one of the top sections, Totaled it all up and it's at 370 lbs so far not including the stretchers. I don't think this thing is going to move and it'll be quite stable.

Next I worked on the stretchers, I had to plane another half inch off of each of the. So my air cleaner will fit under the bench.
    20240217_160055.jpg
Next I cut the stretchers to length on the miter saw.

The bottom leg stretchers are thicker and the saw would not cut all the way through in one pas so I just flipped it and completed the cut.

Next I did some layout for the tennons on one of the cut offs. And then set the saw height for the shoulder cuts.
    20240217_164118.jpg
I used the tennon jig again for the shoulder cuts.
    20240217_170125.jpg
Nice to have the cut offs for the test cuts
    20240217_174146.jpg
All the shoulder cuts are now done.
    20240217_174155.jpg
I set up a full dado stack in the saw.
    20240217_175602.jpg
And nibbled away at the waste to form the tennons on the stretchers.
    20240217_180748.jpg
These are really long tennons because they will be wedged through tennons. One down 7 to go.

Am I the only one thinking this ... that will be so pretty and such a showpiece it will be a shame to use it as a "work"bench?

Nope, it's a workbench, lol. Crap will get piled on it, it will get beat on, things will get clamped to it. Etc.
I have always dreamed of having a bench like this. It's finally becoming a reality. :bananadance:
And it's been a really fun project to build for the shop.

This bench is based on items I had for years before I moved out of my house: pressure treated 4x4s intended for a bench, and (2) 2x12 8 ft floor joist beams donated by a neighbor who worked construction. I had my own "perfection project". Legs closer to the inside garage door were a few inches shorter than further out (garage slopes). The ONLY metal holding it together was lag bolts into the wall and a few tiny screws holding those front supports that keep the front-joint from breaking off. Everything else is wood dowels ... 5/8 dowels mostly ... and much creative drilling.

    GarageWorkbench.jpg

Also a 15 ft work desk and shelf shaped to the basement stairs. "Legs" are half-depth for easy rolling from one end to the other. Two slide-out keyboard trays. Three pieces to make it moveable, but still had to decapitate the top 2 levels of the shelf to move it and had to re-structure the 3-ft wide section of the desk to make it fit inside standard doors in a house. 2x4s under the top plywood to make it a strong top. If you use the 6 3/8-inch bolts to hold the desk together even the steroid-pumped strongmen would find lifting it a challenge.
