Well, that cleared it up for me. I kinda like AllTacosFloat, mostly because it's complex and probablly VERY expensive. Why just change out tires and brake fluid when I can take out a loan.

Booster and master were less than $200 and a quart of dot 3. Maybe 2 hours of time.
Calipers and rotors and brakes were already due so no real added cost to upgrade those.
    If that’s too expensive and complicated I can’t help.:hattip:

I suspect this confusion about brakes is partly due to the introduction of ABS. Before ABS, it was more intuitive that as long as your brakes could lock up your tires, they were not helping to reduce your stopping distance.

I swapped pads to Wagners Severe Duty pads. Semi metallic so there’s a bit more dust but these thing grab very well when it’s cold. Don’t need a lot of time to get heat in them. Fade has decreased significantly.

Friend of mine is head of maintenance for major city police department and recommended these. They use these exclusively on their patrol cars which see more braking in a week than I do in a month. Probably more in a day.

Especially impressed with them in less than ideal conditions ie mud water snow etc. Did quite well in the dust in Baja running the west coast of Mexico. That shit is no joke.

Maybe it’s from having performance cars in the past and spending enough time on the track to be really OCD about them, but I agree that there could be a liiiittle more there in the braking department. I misjudged a yellow at an offramp at a decent decline and I got it stopped but..it wasn’t making me feel great about it. Had I had a load or a trailer I am not positive I would have made it..and ABS wasn’t roaring, nor were the tires. It wasn’t brake fade, but it kinda felt like it.

I am finding people’s criticism of others’ desire to upgrade a system that is critical to safety kind of funny..but then again, there’s a lot about Tacoma owners I don’t understand.

Mind sharing part numbers and the like? I’ve noticed on my truck if you push the brake pedal once and immediately release and reapply that there is more force delivered by the calipers. Significant difference. New master and booster might help me out as well. Thank you in advance.
