So I got to really test my last set of tires... I ran my Falken Wildpeaks into the ground until they were so loud on the road that they were hurting my ears. That said they were a great tire. The Baja Boss on the other hand on top of being bigger than my Falkens are actually lighter, as the Falkens were MTs. They balance nicely and are so quiet on road so far its like i have sound deadening. Off-road so far I love the aggressive side wall for an All Terrain. I haven't seen any other tire look as aggressive as these on a side profile basis. Other than that I need more time with them I have been on three day long trails so far aired down to about 15psi and they have been great. I can report back in another 10k miles.

Another one for good measure, from one of the trails mentioned above.

I have a manual. I say no but it is the last increase i would do without a regear, i now have to downshift to 5th for any moderate hill if i am under 65mph. I hear a/t have a harder time with it but i am sure some still don't

I had 295’s on my 2nd gen and will probably jump straight to them on my 3rd gen once it’s lifted.

Depends on who you talk to. I ran all summer on stock gears with my 295's and had no issues. My roof rack assembly hurt everything more than the tires I found when I pulled it for warranty. Was still able to regularly see 12.5 L/100km hwy with the rack off if I drove relaxed.
So I say it's not required but at the same time these trucks are geared terribly from the factory.

Nice look on those 295 Geolandars. What’s the offset on your wheels?

Hit the trails with my build this week. Sitting on 295/75/16 K02. Rims are the SRS F5 -25 offset with king 2.5 suspension lift. Drove like a dream! No rubbing even in some sections with moderate flex. I have the cab mount chop and cut a good amount of plastic from the wheel wells. I also have the front SSO bumper that I cut a good amount of the OEM bumper away to fit.

My favorite size, have thousands of miles on this size with stock gearing between my old truck and current truck!

I’d love to regear at some point. IMG_0231.jpg IMG_1448.jpg

In need of some advice, hoping someone in here might be able to help me out!

Bought a 3rd gen TRD Off-Road a few months ago, and I’m looking to have some work done on it soon. I have a set of 17x9 -12 Method MR701 bead grips, and plan on using Bilstein’s 6112/5160 with an AAL in the rear to get 2 inches of lift. Biggest issues I have right now is deciding on which AAL, UCA, and Tire to run. I’m not picky about the AAL and UCA as long as it’s a reliable option that works with a 295/70r17 tire setup well. Here’s what I’m in between for tires, and their specs (according to their respective company).

    Toyo Open Country R/T Trail
    • Size: 295/70r17
    • Width: 11.8
    • Diameter: 33.3
    • Tread Depth: 16.6
    • Weight: 61 LBs
    • Warranty: 45,000 Miles
    • Bonus: Lighter

    Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T
    • Size: 295/70r17
    • Width: 12.1
    • Diameter: 33.7
    • Tread Depth: 18.5
    • Weight: 72 LBs
    • Warranty: 50,000 Miles
    • Bonus: 3PMS

I like both of these tires, but it’s super hard to choose (And I am still open to other options). The Toyos are not 3PMS due to being R/T, and they lack reviews. The Mickeys, on the other hand, are HEAVY. I would say my on/off-road split is around 90/10 with this being a daily driver, but when off-road, the terrain is pretty rough (fair mud/water/bigger rocks). Have also considered the ridge grappler, but to be honest I am pretty suspicious of their tread life. To those of you here who run Baja Boss A/T's in 295/70r17, I'd be curious to hear about your MPG, if there has been any excess suspension wear and tear from the weight, and what it took to make these puppies fit. As for the UCA and AAL, I want a UCA that's going to work well with the fitment and handle these tires well off-road. Same with the AAL, though I know it is not ideal, I see no need for a full pack at this time. Sorry for the info dump, thanks in advance!

Personally, I would not run the Mickeys simply due to weight. A heavy wheel and tire package will bog your truck down more than you know. I’d go with the Toyo in a heartbeat (top of my list for my next tire FWIW).
As for uca’s I’d stay away from SPCs. Their ball joints and frame pivots suck. It will be easy to clear those 295’s with SPCs and a good alignment, but they won’t last. I’d recommend a high quality ball joint arm
