My contract ended at my old job, so it wasn’t my choice. I’d be a company man if they had enough work to keep me on.

I can't imagine how much student loans cost for a masters.

I can't understand not making great money and having a bachelor's, or a master's even.

A lot of people don't want to work; it's crazy how a lot of places are hiring

Hell, I was offered a job at one place I get steel from as he was surprised I knew different terms and methods for bending on a brake

Even offered to show me how to use their accurpress

Yes and no with regards to people not wanting to work. Depending on industry. I job searched for about 6 months before finally getting something due to who I knew. Then again for me, oil and gas is a volatile industry. With a lot of older experienced individuals. I applied to A LOT of places. But plenty of industry’s will hire if you have two thumbs and a heart beat. But still a lot of younger people in my generation and younger are not willing to do a lot of jobs/careers that require starting from the bottom and progressing.

I had a teaching assistantship, so I was paid to get it basically.

Yea it’s not that easy to find a job in geology if you don’t have a lot of programming or engineering experience to go along with it. Theres not many places hiring people to go out and look at rocks. You can find work ads a geotech on construction sites, but most of those places prefer someone with an engineering background. There are a some transferable skills though for other industries. Hell, there’s even a possible career in the coffee industry if you play your cards right.

This here, cause yeah depending on the industry could mean "too many candidates" so to speak or just "no need"

At the same time, there are other ways to get into a specific company or even getting to fulfill a specific role

Sometimes you have to start at the bottom, and many people don't want to do that, especially if they have a degree already (IE entitlement)

Have you considered getting a minor in engineering or something I mean shit, would suck to just get a master's in something and let it go to waste

Especially since you went to school for what, 6 years?

Absolutely. I was about to go be a floorhand on a drilling rig before I got hired as a field engineer. Still willing if I need after my contract ends where I’m at and I can’t find an engineering role again. Some people are built for it and some aren’t. I think it’s a mentality. Partially due to how they were raised/grew up. Thats my opinion on it.

Software development has really tightened up lately. Knowing how to code isn’t really a gravy train like it used to be.

Yeeaaaa I’d go get my hands dirty before I worked in a coffee shop haha. No offense. Plenty more money to be made if you are willing to test yourself for sure.
