To lift/level or not?

Hey everyone, Just bought a 23 Sport DCLB. I am contemplating doing Bilstein 5100’s front, and rear with a 1.5” Icon add a leaf. I have no good reason to do the lift other than I like how it looks. I have read a few posts where people have regretted different versions of lifts. My concern, am I ruining the reliability and wearing out parts prematurely, just to get a look. Wondering if I could get some feedback from people that regret not leaving their truck stock height.

 

Leave it stock, see how you like it, revisit in a year or so

 

Do a mild lift,5100s 2-3 clip front, add a leaf rear, 265/70 17 tires, done.

That way it retains a rake to rear and is still useable as a truck.

 

Gas prices seem to be trending down, so it won't cost you quite as much when you take the hit on MPGs by lifting.

 

Until they inevitably go back up

 

Get an Eibach 2.0 kit and you spin the collars up just a little bit to level it out. Inevitably, in a year or so, when that’s not high enough for you, you do aal or leaf pack and crank up the front a few more turns. You can keep playing that game through year 3 and 4 when you get your cab mount chop and are trying fit your new 33’s. Then finally around year 6-7 you can remove that setup after you spec out your new long travel Kings.

 

I have already done the 265/70 17’s. They fit no problem. I realize by doing a very mild lift, it would not mess with driveline angles much but it’s still not what it was. Just seems like more risk than reward. The only thing keeping it in my head is it is basically the same kit you can buy from Toyota minus the AAL.

 

Bilstein 6112's up front and 5160's in the rear with an add a leaf. Best bang for your buck option right now for our trucks in my opinion. With that being said....doing anything other than leaving the truck stock will cause components to wear quicker than normal

 

2018 Sport MT. Bilstein 5100's x4, with the longer version for the rear. Heavy springs front and rear because I knew I'd be adding weight. About 3 inches in lift. I bought the package deal from Headstrong and added the longer brake lines in the rear. Added SPC UCA's. Just replaced the ball joints this past weekend with 76k miles on them, 126k on the truck. No issues with premature wear on anything. Also running your tire size, but I have done some cutting because I'm running a 17x9 wheel with KO2's. This set up kept the factory rake which I prefer. That way if I squat the truck with a heavy load, it still looks somewhat level.

 

A new 23 Sport with minimal offroad use at this time? A nice truck that you want to look good, presumably only buy what you need today to accomplish that, and keep it close to stock? Totally reasonable to me.

 

Fwiw, I am minimally lifted, Bilstein 5100 in front and Toyota's 1/2" rear blocks in the rear. I can adjust my 5100s and use the 1/2" blocks or not, to get the rake I want considering the full skid set and rock sliders I have on it.
I consider this pretty minimal. The additional armor weight and my wide 33s probably causes greater wear than the suspension changes.

I didn’t lift my 2015 until about 90,000mi. Bought at 23,000mi.

live with it for a while then make the choice. The shocks are supposed to be replaced around 60,000 anyways so when you consider the money going towards that, it helps make the decision.

In the meantime you can save money, do research, all that stuff. You’ll probably want to do ECGS bushing as well if you’re 4x4.

Other things to consider, resale value, loss in MPG, vibrations, taking to shop or doing yourself, potential loss in torque, Carrier bearing drop, all sorts of goodies.

0 offset wheels with one size up tires gives a better look/stance than a lift and has far less drawbacks.

 

2/1 lift on mine, don't regret it. Originally did 2" with 1.5" tapered block but had some vibrations when braking, moving to a 1" tapered block resolved it. Looks better too, less rake. Simple lift, giving me the look I wanted with 265/70 tires. PERFECT lift for this size tire.
