Just installed the VLEDS tail light kit for my Tacoma SR.. I am honestly shocked Toyota went with their original design when this is so much better. It makes no sense to split the "C" red shape into two when you can use it in its entirety for much better illumination at night. The ambers sharing the white reverse light was an awesome touch and I keep everything factory untouched.

The only thing I can hope for is that these LED "bulbs" last at least a year. I am thinking of buying some spares just in case. I have not had good luck with aftermarket LEDs.

VLEDS is the only brand of LEDs I’ve ever seen with pretty much rare to no failures. You should get at least a year.

I bought spare switchbacks and I keep a box of incandescents for the brake lights.

So it looks like with the VLEDs I needed to add resistors on both sides. Front and back. Prior to the tail lights modified, I didn't need resistors in either locations. Only after each side had a resistor installed did the car finally calm down. What's funny is it happened at random. Sometimes it was normal, sometimes it would blink fast. I didn't get to test it for long but I am hoping this puts an end to my panic blinkers lol

SR/SR5 need them. TRDs and Limiteds don’t, except to prevent hyperflash in reverse (parallel parking scenario basically).

Also, to reliably determine whether resistors are needed, the engine needs to be running. The higher voltage from the alternator lessens the amp draw from the bulbs which then makes you more likely to need resistors. So since engine on is the normal scenario, it needs to be running for testing.

I just purchased the resistors from VLED when I ordered the kit, they were simple plug and play

Even with the engine running things worked fine. It would happen at random. That's why it caught me by surprise. I did a quick test drive around the neighborhood and then the last turn my left decided to rapidly blink. What's funny is the new LED OEM headlights didn't need the resistors. It wasn't until I swapped the taillights that it started happening.

Either way, both kits shipped with resistors and now that both resistors are installed the problem seems to have gone away.

Just installed the VLED tails on my 2023 LR Trail and love them. Anyone have an idea of the lifespan of the led bulbs and when they need to be replaced? Might buy a backup set in case

Installed the Vtails kit this weekend on my '21 OR. So much better! Didn't end up needing the resistors, even in reverse. I'm also curious about bulb lifespan.

Bulbs have a 3 year warranty as long as there isn’t some sort of water intrusion or mis-use that leads to premature failure. With that said, these bulbs are built to pretty strict tolerances — especially the V6’s. Plenty of trucks out there with bulbs that are several years old.

Just installed these today; anyone else have an issue with the way the VLED reverse/directional switchback bulbs fit in the tail lights? They have two tabs on them, vs the stock bulb socket having three, and they don’t tighten and stop at a quarter turn like the stock socket does, they will tighten past the point of them being “tight.” I have them both in, and turned til they were tight, but I’m worried about them not sealing and opening the tail light up to moisture issues…

I installed these about 8 months ago (love them) and on getting my oil changed, the guy told me that the left bottom wasn't working. Got kinda' pissed, as they were pretty new. I puled the tail light and found that the "bulb" come loose and just needed to be re-seated.:bananadance:

Question for the resistors i am reading about and where to place them if they were needed. I have a 23 trdsport, with the led headlights. Do i need the resistors for the tail lights. And then an extra set for the ones up front as someone mentioned above? Or did i understand that incorrectly. Willing to pull the trigger on these, but want to make 1 purchase and be done with it. Also dont want to install something if it isnt necessary..

The resistors are only for the led tail light kit. What happens is when you shift into reverse with your signal on the signal begins blinking super fast (hyper flashing). Not really an issue unless you were trying to reverse parallel park or something like that. It won't hurt anything not to have them, but it appears they're now included when you buy the tail light conversion kit.

You can mount them directly behind the tail light in the bed. Mine are off to the side behind the tail lights.

I installed the V6 Triton tail light conversion kit on my SR. The resistors are for the switchback turn signals and reverse lights. The resistors are heavy duty and heatsinked with an adhesive pad that is placed on the inside of the tail light area. The kit was an easy install and the brightness and functionality is excellent.

You'll be impressed. With the V6 Extremes being brighter than the V6 Triton kit, people behind you will need sunglasses. My turn signals and brake lights illuminate everything behind me. I wanted bright because of the number of inattentive drivers more interested in their phone than the back of my truck.
