Anybody take delivery of the 2024 Tacoma yet ?

I want a black Tacoma double cab 6' bed 4WD, SR5 or TRD Sport ok with me, Black with Boulder fabric , Heated seats, JBL, Spray on bed liner, tube steps, SR5 Upgrade Cold Weather package with options
@ $3870 on the SR5 is fine with me. Keeping the 2020 4R TRD ORP KDSS, keeping 2019 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax to pull big Airstream, getting rid of 2007 Camry XLE V6, nothing wrong with Camry but something has to go. Love the look of the new Tacoma and I want one. Nothing else really excites me in the auto industry at the current time.

 

That's great, the dealer I'm working with offered me 8k under my carvana offer. Then told me 6k under was the most they could "stretch it". Low milage Jeep Wrangler. Carvana it is.

 

I haven’t seen anyone post their deal sheet. I would take some comments with a grain of salt. Your dealer experience it typical. Especially on a new generation launch. They know people are drooling over the new shiny truck and low ball the trade on purpose. They make a lot of money on used trucks.

 

When I bought my 23, they had a similarly equipped used 23 for roughly the same price

 

The rule when you are buying and trading in, the dealer always talks up the new vehicle they are selling like it's the hottest most sought after vehicle out there, the one you are trading in gets picked apart by the used car manager, they are not selling, color is not good, miles are a little high, has to go through the shop and reconditioned, whatever BS excuses they can think of to give you as little as possible for your trade. My last vehicle I went to several dealers, one Toyota used car manager said I needed a new windshield because of a few small stone chips up above the windshield wipers, so miner would not even consider repairing. Also said my battery was four years old and needed replaced even though it was a factory Panasonic and was fine. I told them that I didn't want to burden them with my vehicle and got up and started walking out and then they offered me $500 more but I kept walking.

 

Okay.
Yes it has some qol improvements but the fundamentals;

Does it tow more?
Does it seat more?
Does it get better gas mileage?
Is it more reliable?
Is it more capable off road?

Gas mileage is a slight 5% improvement, with the caveat of a smaller tank. You are very much in full size truck territory now price wise yet only get mid size performance.

 

everything about the new taco sounds great except the powertrain. Hopefully you can go without any crazy issues over the next couple years.

 

Yup, as soon as that slimy little weasel came up with the sheet of paper instead of the sales guy, I knew they were going to try to bend me over on the trade. They kept saying how lucky I was to get the Tacoma at MSRP without a markup. I showed them my carvana and CarMax deals and they said I should just take one of those, even tho I offered to work lower for the tax savings difference. Oh well.

 

So one great improvement about the new Tacoma is the thing you find bad?

 

5% better gas mileage (a lot of reports have it more like 10, but let’s say 5) along with a significant increase in power is a very substantial improvement in efficiency. And you guys that keep saying these are full size truck prices are comparing loaded Tacomas to entry-level Tundras. A Tundra TRD Pro STARTS at $71,000. The the top of the line Tundras can easily reach $81,000. So no, we are not at full size prices. Not even close at comparable models.

 

I'm intrigued over what the 8 speed automatic is like. We had a 6 speed automatic in a Camry years ago and I didn't like it. Bought a '23 Camry with the 8 speed automatic and it is a million times better.

Yes, both are completely different designs (FWD vs RWD/4WD), but should be similar enough and enough years has passed by they should have gotten it down.

 

Not to defend some of these weirdos around here (I too am weird it's okay). But transaction price versus MSRP or TSRP are different. You can get $10,000-$15,000 off Silverado Trail Boss LT's, Ram Rebels, I'm seeing $6,000-9,000 off Tremor F-150's even. Buying a loaded TRD OR for $54,500 versus a not top of the line, but nicely equipped Silverado TB with a Duramax for $57,000... easy.

 

This is a common thing here, "this fully loaded mid size truck is getting into base line full size pricing... "

While you can compare the numbers for most trim levels and it shows 4g is about 10% higher MSRP compared to 3g.

You will also see how happy people are about their 3g but the 4g won't be what they are looking for even with similar or better metrics across the board.

 

Some dealers just suck. I won’t even step foot in a dealer without a reasonable trade-in quote beforehand, sight unseen.

It takes a little work cleaning up the vehicle and taking good pics, but I can leverage the work across multiple dealers. It weeds out the scumbags.

More like fully loaded midsize is getting into mid level trim full size. For mid 50s you can get a pretty loaded silverado/F150/Ram right now.

 

I usually just see tundras referenced here so I'm not as familiar with the others. But I'll take your word on it. I'm shopping mid size because I don't want or need a full size. So it's not really an important value comparison for me to consider. But I hope you enjoy your full size purchase!

Tundra is too. Hence why dealer still can't sell them, even with 10k off the higher trims.

 

Was the 3g over priced? Outside of leather seats optioned trucks, prices are like 10% higher. Which to me kinda seems reasonable.

Are dealers and distributors building reasonable trucks? That's a different question. I think most price complaints should be directed at the awful Toyota sales model not the actual price of the truck.

 

I have a 3rd gen and absolutely think they are overpriced. I feel like my 44k tacoma should be somewhere in the high 30s.

 

Fair enough. Then I guess I blame you not Toyota for the prices. People buying overpriced 3gs brought on this overpriced 4g.
