Hello guys good afternoon ! Just took my 2009 tacoma to the shop for a oil change and my mechanic gave me a paper letting me know my truck is available for recall on the leaf springs ( rear ) just called Toyota and turns out it’s available for recall but I’m wondering if it worth it in the first place, I have been hearing squeekings sometimes when I go over bumps I’m not too sure please let me know guys ! Tacoma has been perfectly fine though .

Yes. You will get a total of 4 leafs with the new pack.
Don’t risk breaking your 3 leaf pack.

Take it in and get it done.

Ask your mechanic how much he will charge to install a add a leaf kit once the dealer installs the new leaf springs. Heck you may be able to chuck $50 to the dealer tech and have them install a add a leaf kit while doing the leafs. I dont haul/tow often but 7 years after getting this recall done my recall leaf springs are pretty flat, I wish I had the knowhow to install a add a leaf when my leaf springs were new.

Nice shop! Definitely get it done. We pretty much see one every 6 months or so, not many left to do.

    It's free. Nothing to fear.

Only if the current ones are sagging. OEM height will be restored. The squeaking will eventually return.

I was told for my 07 they couldn't do a 4 leaf... had to install a 3 pack since that was on the truck originally. Since i had a aal and they wouldn't reinstall with the new leafs (even though their the ones that installed the aal in the first place!) I ended up just replacing everything with the icon rxt at option 2... way better!

Does anybody know if Toyota will reimburse you if you do the job yourself?

I have a 05 and this recall came out just before I was planning on doing a big trip and buying a new camper.

They told me they couldn’t replace mine yet because the recall solution hadn’t been finalized.

I ended up replacing mine with a four leaf pack from another Tacoma that had been lifted. I wasn’t willing to do a cross country trip on faulty springs.

I always thought they should reimburse me for my cost.

Yes, its difficult but toyota will reimburse up to a specific cost if the recall is still active.

The only way to "recall" the stock leaf springs is by throwing them in the dumpster.

I've had stock packs with an AAL, Dakars and Deaver stage 3 U402's (now) and the best bet has always been something aftermarket. The stock leaf springs are junk.

If its just a block lift, get the recall done anyway.

Do you know how the rear is lifted?

Tacoma springs sag and fail, if you're on the stock springs you are way overdue for replacement.

Only thing you'll need is new extended u bolts if its a block lift.

The recall was because they had some of the spring packs break. Get it done.

That recall was quite a few years ago. I took my 07 in as soon as I heard about it. They inspected my truck and told me that my springs were fine, but they would still replace them. Problem was they only got about 2-3 sets of springs/month to do the recall and my truck was a low priority. Others were in greater need. They moved me to the bottom of the list.

I'd check back every few months and get the same story. It was about 2 years after I 1st contacted them before they replaced my springs. I was just under 200,000 miles at the time. That was 44,000 miles ago.

I'm guessing they've gotten caught up and can get to it a lot sooner now.
