    Hi all,
Just got done dropping the pan and filter on my 2006 a750f. I was scared to do it because it still shifted really well, but it had 227,000 on it, and my neighbor I bought it from said he had not ever serviced the transmission. He did however only use it to commute to work, never towed, never off roaded, it was basically a commuter car with 95% highway miles.
So the fluid was still dark translucent red in the sunshine, and the bottom of the pan was basically clean, and very little sludge on the magnets, with absolutely no grit of any kind. I would add that when I did the transfer case and differentials they also looked fantastic. He did did have the frame Recall performed at 116k, but I don’t know if draining the transmission is needed to do a frame swap.
Everything went back together great, torqued to spec, and I topped off the level using the jumper method with no problem. The shifts actually feel a little more positive and firm, very Smooth. Not a hint of slipping.
My question is this, given how good things went, should I do a drain and fill in few hundred to make the fluid even fresher? Possibly two more? As opposed to stopping at this so the old fluid still in can “help the bands” or whatever. If you read this to the end, thanks for your time! Lol

Drain/refill every 30K is what I started doing at 215K. Before that I did flushes every 60K per manual for severe duty service.

    you can
    since some is residual

    folks generally don't
it's already better off now having it done
why waste money and stack two on top of each other within a week

different story if you've got a bunch of extra fluid sitting around or something to get rid of, which may not be the case

That would be a firm yes.....there would be still some old transmission fluid in your torque converter. With your drain and fill every 30K this will eliminate the old fluid.

    Good Work!

I started driving 50 years ago. Never changed transmission fluid in any vehicle. I've had a couple of electrical glitches with transmissions over the years but none related to the fluid. I have 680,000 combined miles on the driveway in 4 vehicles including 244,000 on my 07 Tacoma and all of them still have the transmission fluid that came from the factory.

While having the electrical issues resolved I asked the transmission shop about changing fluid. They advised me to save my money and just keep driving it until/if it ever dies. They say the guys who change it every 30,000 miles end up replacing their transmissions at about the same point as the guys who never change it. Most vehicles end up in the scrap yard for other reasons before the transmissions die anyway.

If one of the transmissions dies tomorrow, I'm way ahead money wise.

I would suggest you change it every 10k till clean. Then, after that, change it at a reasonable interval. I just serviced mine for the first time in 209k. I bought my truck used and it was never done either. I had that belief of leaving it alone once past its interval till mine started to shutter. So, I said, what do I have to loose. I serviced it and became a firm believer that that's all a myth. I'll post my pictures of what my pan and such looked like. The only time you will hurt a Trans like that is if you flush them.

But in your case, since of how you described, it's healthy still. Do that and get the fluid clean. I will be doing that with mine as well

I agree with you 100% at this point! Heck my shifts firmed up to the point I got second gear chirp pulling into traffic the other day! I think I’m gonna do at least two more fluid changes once every couple weeks to get it new and clean, since the trans is acting so good!

to add to the discussion......another good reason to fill and flush, there is some history that the transmission fluid when leaving the factory are low (1/2 liter or more - mine was). No sure about others but I wasn't going to risk it! After all, that what we do..... crack a cold pop and "just do it"

I just serviced mine for the first time, I had that fear to the rumor about leaving it alone when past its interval was true. Not sure if any of you have seen my post I made, I will link it below. Lots say they measure 3.2 quarts when doing a drain and fill, I only had 2.8. Now, it's possible that it's because of evaporative loss. But who knows.
