For those of you who glue your joints and hate sanding the glue off, especially on right angle inside corners. I would never take 2X time to tape, but if you have that time it is an option.
When using an orbital sander, it is easy to groove the corner if you get too close to the right angle board. I use a home made solution that costs nothing and works great. I am currently building a few coffee/footstool/dinner stands out of 4" thick by 16" wide. I just did my first sand after the glue up last night and, when I was sanding near the edge I just held up one of these where I was sanding.
    20240218_180832.jpg
These are the things that come with plants you buy that tell you what they are. Perfect for protecting your inside corner when sanding. Let's you sand off the glue right up to the edge.

Some black locust I milled about a year ago. Quarter grain too. Did this in 1 hour today. And did the apple spoon back in October. Haven’t used it for cooking because it’s so pretty, maybe one dayIMG_7231.jpg IMG_7233.jpg IMG_7236.jpg IMG_7238.jpg IMG_2196.jpg

One says its ok for cutting boards the other no. But anyhow i use on wood utensils. The coating once cured is very durable. We run them through the dishwasher.

Got a little shop time after work for some life therapy.
Finished the tennons on the top cross stretchers. This will give you an idea of what I'm shooting for.
    20240219_182917.jpg
These top stretchers will be inset so that I have about 2 inches all the way around the bench top to clamp things to, it's just how I work.
    20240219_182945.jpg
2 done and 2 to go.

Yes they will. Wedged thru tennon so that the bench can be taken apart if ever need be. The thru, through? tennons will also prevent it from racking.

i've been wanting to do this since i broke my last store bought wooden spoon a couple weeks ago. seems like a fun little project that'll get used often at my house.

what type of wood is the darker one?

mine is 5 years old for what its worth, but mine also houses a water pump and water softener. the salt for the softener may have something to do with it? it doesn't get put on the roof or anything, but maybe just having the salt in the atmosphere around it is causing it to fail.

Yeah if there's salt particals floating around in there it could speed cause that deterioration over time. Could always patch or replace any holes it's made and spray a clear coat on the inner roof to add a little protection.
