that sounds about right with it. it was a brown on brown truck haha pretty gutless and it lose fuel a looooot no idea why but it would run out of fuel often but it still had fuel in it lol. other then that a good truck overall

Damn, that's a pretty truck...

Fuel loss is one weak point with these engines. The fuel injector return circuit used plastic fittings which would turn brittle and leak over time. They're probably the number one issue for fuel loss and hard starts with the IDIs. Replacement parts kit is around $35 these days, and a few shops sell brass fitting kits.

 

Picked up the 4runner yesterday! Coming from the 3rd gen love the torque! Removing the rear seats now. What do you guys recommend for some rust treatment? There is sporadic surface rust here and there. Thinking I will use a metal brush and then put fluid film on it. Or is another treatment better?

 

his wasnt as nice but overall was in good shape for its year. we use to take it camping for years until we got the 03 durmax then sold it off

Clean it up and coat it in woolwax. I prefer it to fluid film, it’s less greasy and seems to last longer

 

Friend of my dad’s just sold his 1st gen for like $5000. I told him he didn’t get near enough for it.. but he was content since he bought it new and has had it this many years

now’s he’s waiting for a new maverick… I said that’s a mistake

tbh thats a fair price... people that want more then that for such an old truck are part of the problem with this market...

if they fix it then it will be but that depends if ford will actually say its an issue and fix it... if not then it wont be. it does do a shit ton better then the tacoma thou if only its trans wasnt junk lol

then the last gen or current? idk what it is since the new one hasnt come out yet. im guessing they will be about on par with each other. just depends if they fix that trans or if it has a different one in the next gen.

 

I use fluid film religiously. Woolwax also works great.

so besides just deaver and old man emu what leaf springs exist out there? my truck is starting to sag more and the leafs are starting to become more flat... i could prob put a helper leaf or something to help with the sag but prob not the fact its flatting out.

i liked the deaver 1" lift ones buuut they dont have a overload leaf and are not designed to tow truly it seems. about 900

old man emu is cheaper and overall still a good leaf pack but they do ride rough and have one hellll of a rake which i always hated about my last pack but they did a good job with everything i needed. about 500ish

i now know that icon is not a good company for well other reasons minus the coilovers being junk lol which sucks since ive heard good things about the leaf pack and the prices can be pretty good.

are there any other brands?

 

in australia they have i havent seen the 6th gen on any market yet i know the 5th you cant buy anymore but i still see them on dealer lots when ive driven around.

Flat leafs are normal. Sagging truck is not.

Icon have some of the best engineering in the market, and their RXT leafs and Aal are second only to deaver. And they haven't been financially tied to the jackoff for quite some time now.

Alcan does custom leaf packs.

Dakar (ome) make several different weight rating packs, super solid.

All pro have been a let down recently on several trucks in STL. not a fan anymore.

 

I like my icon RXT leafs. Had them since 2019

 

I test drove the 4th gen SR5 automatic this weekend. I didn't come away thinking it was way better than my 3rd gen v6 with the 6MT. The back of the truck definitely feels more planted and truck drive much lighter. But it wasn't as fast or effortless as I had hoped. Also, the back seats are redone where no longer can have a flat surface when you remove the rear seats.

Maybe the TRDs will feel better.

thats honestly disappointing i had high hopes for its platform hopefully when tuners get ahold of it they will make the truck better.
