I mean, I get it, but, I think this is probably a smart tact with any new generation of any vehicle, not just 4th gen Tacomas. Unless you absolutely need a new truck "right now", giving it a few years to get all the manufacturing gremlins to be worked out is always a good idea. Let's not pretend the 3rd generation was smooth sailing for the first couple of years of production. Ditto for the 2nd gen. The 3rd gen forum was a complete sh*t show for the first couple of years :D

I’m waiting a year to go into my Canadian dealer and get bent over. I’m waiting for interest rates to come down, but I’m needing a new ride soon, my ‘06 is really showing it’s age.

I would seriously consider keeping the 23 for sure. That saying the grass is not always greener. Wait a few years . The 23 is as reliable as your going to get . The 24 will have some hitches especially in the beginning

I bought in 2016, and thanks to discounts, got a better truck w more features in 2018 for the same price. As a bonus, most of the bugs were worked out.

Some may lecture to the rest of us that today’s sky-high prices are just normal trends, or even “worth it”, but we’re actually still unwinding a couple years of extraordinary non-linear inflation. Who knows where this goes, but some promising recent trends indicate that it’s going south.

Either way, if someone is excited enough right now to pay their dealer a ridiculous sum for a new Tacoma w/o power seats, then why not instead invest that enthusiasm in some patience and pay less later? It’s too expensive, so just let the lots fill up and the market will fix the rest.

There's always going to be buyers until there isn't. If the 4th gen turns out to be a dud or problem prone in mass people will shy away. No 13 inch screen can make up for a crappy product. Although people still buy those new Land Rovers that hardly make it off the lot before they implode.

Just seen a newish Land Rover barely making it up the hill with a bunch of grey smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes.

I wouldn’t even drive one if it was given to me for free haha.

Wait a year or so. They will be selling $5k or more off MSRP. They have gotten way overpriced for just a bigger infotainment screen. Give me more truck capabilities and not fluff for the price hikes.

Would you prefer something that had huge suspension and shock improvements? That might help with truck capability

or maybe more torque at lower rpm? That seems like truck stuff

Or maybe larger stock tires? Might help with trucky things

Are you suggesting 4G has got huge suspension and shock improvements? :)

    More torque? That’s questionable.

Larger 18” tires? You mean less sidewall to do “trucky” things?

More payload. The current payload capacity is pathetic for a 60k truck.

    Yep.

Back seats look even more cramped. Less ground clearance. Same suspension travel as 2nd Gen, even in the fancy PRO. Longer wheelbase=worse off-road. Same MPG as 3G pretty much.

Oh wait! They got that cool dash speaker and arcade game seats! :)

between a linked rear and far better shocks, yes.

    how is that “questionable?”

The factory tires on the OR are bigger than the previous gen. Same with the pro.

So you get to 1,500 lb payload and what is the reason to buy a Tundra?

Linked rear? What’s so special about it? It doesn’t make the truck carry more weight. Lower trims still come with leafs. Better shocks? How so?

More torque is questionable because I haven’t driven one yet, and my truck has plenty of torque at low RPMs. Guys from TFL were not impressed towing with 4G so…

It’s 18” rim, so less sidewall. What makes it better?
