New-to-me Free Spirit 270. Man I love this community. Had a nice early morning drive and met Chris. He stuck around to help install it. Great guy.

I ran the ARB 2500 with room for 7 years. Zero complaints. My daughter's bigger, nice having the extra shade and the ability to deploy it freestanding. I also got the room for it which is built like a tank.

Damn, it seems that you can catch some air with that... This just gave me an idea for a fixed foldable shade canopy.

Yeah it comes with aluminum poles and tie-downs. It is built like a tank so we'll see how it goes!

My u-joint needle bearings on my driveshaft (Tom Woods) were a little worn so I learned how to replace the u-joints.

Apparently one of the grease nipples unscrewed itself, flew off, and all the grease came out. Then I heard some loud clicking and rubbing noises. Thankfully nothing too severe happened.

Ran my stock DS for a few days while I rebuilt things and it reminded me how much vibration I had. Holy smokes.

Anyway, having bought a ball joint press a while back has come in handy for so many things, including this job. Everything's back together and working smoothly again.

Was going to replace my air filter but it looks like the snorkel is doing its job with the cleaner air. I’ll replace it once winter is over.

The front brakes provide 75-80% of the stopping power for a vehicle. The rear brakes, more or less, help keep the rear end from coming around and meeting the front.

I put 100K miles on a motorcycle. When I sold it the rear brakes were like new. The front were disk; the rear, drum. The only thing the rear was good for was locking up the wheel; either when moving or sitting on an incline.

Do the front and you will definitely notice a difference. As has been pointed out by others, the rear brakes do not do much to slow/stop the vehicle. With the rear of most trucks being empty 90% of the time, having rear brakes that apply sufficient force to assist with much more than vehicle control would be counter productive; they would lock up every time the brakes were applied.

I was not aware that anyone was making cars with drum brakes that are not self adjusting. I don't see any reason to adjust the rear brakes manually.

Spent some money on repairs today. My HVAC blower was cutting in and out and the wiring harness plug was burnt. The wiring harness itself was also hot to the touch and actually burned my wife's foot not long ago. I went to the dealer today and got a new blower motor, resistor, and wiring harness installed. I also had them drain and properly fill my transmission fluid since the last place that did it used the wrong kind of fluid. It came out like syrup when he drained it and was likely the cause of my shift flares. I probably could've done it cheaper by doing it all myself but honestly, I just wanted it done right. My truck is shifting smoother now and I have peace of mind knowing I don't have a fire hazard underneath my dash anymore.

On my maintenance list for this next oil change in ~300mi. I was looking through my maintenance log and realized I'm about 27k mi overdue :anonymous:
I changed them last @ 104k and I just rolled over 161k yesterday. Might explain the crappy gas milage and sluggish performance. :bananadead:

Going to be buying plugs, differential oil, serpentine, ps fluid and a pcv soon. Prob do in the spring, with a MAF cleaning, or when it hits 88k miles. Recall leaf springs replaced and coolant flush was done at 77k. Still runs, shifts and drives just as good, if not better, as the 2016 I sold with 25k miles. 2nd gens rule.20231013_153815.jpg

Easy one to let slide unfortunately. This truck has all fluids checked religiously, zerks greased...never thrown a code in 148K....and this was only it's 2nd set of plugs. Got the infamous Denso/NGK mixed set out of the heads.

    For shame.

Thank you. No I haven't used a cap in over 30 years. Like the looks however I access my bed too often. Had 17 trucks and only had 2 caps in my 50 years of driving. Last nice cap I had was a high top walk in. Truck was parked beside my house with my 20' bowrider boat and trailer connected (where my Bronco is in the picture). A wind storm knocked a tall pine tree down. It was in front of the truck and fell dead center across my truck and boat. That cap collapsed within 1" of my F250 roof, crushed my boat windshield and cracked the entire top side of my fiberglass boat, and took out my privacy fence gate behind the boat. Boat was a total loss and not a scratch on my pristine 1983 F250. Replaced that nice crushed cap with a cheap aluminum cap. Took the cash, replaced the boat windshield, and used the boat 5 more years. Last cap I ever bought. Wish we had camera phones back then. Here is the truck for sale a few months after the incident.83 f250.jpg
