Can anyone give me an idea of what’s happening with my 2001 Toyota Tacoma? I recently had a cylinder 4 misfire fixed, the coil and spark plugs. It sucks cause the noises occur randomly, it appears difficult for a mechanic to diagnose it so then I look like a fool when I bring it in. The following issues occur with #4 being more frequent:
-1. When starting the car - weird vibrating sound initially

-2. When accelerating after starting car - rumbling sound

-3. When accelerating on freeway or street - whistling sound (comes and goes)

-4. When releasing gas - vacuum rumbling sound

    How are your motor mounts?

I'm not sure. I'm not well-versed when it comes to cars or auto repair lol. Should I have a mechanic take a look at the Motor Mounts?

Sounds like you probably have a few different things going on. Doubt it will be one single fix. A weird vibration on startup could be a bad fan clutch, or accessory bearing (ac, power steering, alternator), or something in the motor (you didn't say what motor you had) bad spark plugs, coils, injectors, etc... rumble when accelerating could be drive shaft u joints, diff or wheel bearings. And 3 and 4 could be rotten vacuum lines moving around because a worn out motor mount is making them flex.

Not saying any of those are right, but all of them are possibilities.

At this point in your trucks life span- it needs a solid going through. Nothing sounds totally fubar'd yet, but your truck is telling you it's time for an overhaul.

Yeah I just had the gasket head changed two years ago. I also had the cat converter replaced two weeks ago. I ran into another issue two weeks ago when I had a misfire for cylinder 4. What causes a misfire for cylinder 4 if I just changed the head gasket two years ago?

The same thing that caused the original head gasket to fail in the first place. Sounds like you need to start with a compression test to make sure the motor is ok and worth working on at all.

You were correct in that a few vacuum lines and the motor mounts (left and right motor mount) needed to be replaced, and I think the mechanic said the part that moves the steering wheel needed to be replaced. He did the compression test for the motor, he said it’s still good. It amounted to 1600 dollars with labor. Does this sound fair?
