I'm more annoyed that the depth of my driveway and garage are that of a standard car. So my situation is literally shimmying in all 4 directions to get to any vehicle (I have 4 + gf has 1). I don't even have the option to park the truck inside or I risk hitting something.
In my neighborhood the width is more understandable because the houses are so close, but ya... cut any corner on an eco build I guess?

I'm lucky in that regard. I haven't measured it but our minivan fits front to back with 3'-4' to spare. The width would be more manageable without kids (and if my wife could park better).

The key is don’t ask… I reached out to confirm guidance on color restrictions for some pretty normal security doors we were getting installed, and the reply was a laundry list of documents I’d need to provide for them to do an “architectural review” of modifications to my home. They didn’t even respond to the color question… We just went ahead using our best discretion, like the rest of the damn neighborhood who has similar doors, and haven’t heard a peep in years!

I did go that route a couple of times.. just got guilted into "leading by example", but no good deed goes unpunished. I should tell the pergola story next... lol

I had an HOA when I bought my first home in PHX, and didn't have any issues, but when we moved to FLG I was sure to not buy a HOA neighborhood.

I'm pretty convinced that with how much hate they have now, they'll be gone by the time I die. (or at least very few new ones)
My #1 criteria for my next home is no HOA

Stuff that costs more than my wife thinks.
Thank ya! That was when the grass first took, so I was letting it over grow and root - the photo was mostly to show that I found a good use for the two extra bulbs I had on the outdoor light strand. lmao

Waste of freaking money considering we didn't stay there though.

The HOA for my neighborhood did not make a habit of interfering. Even when one person refused to put siding or to paint a small backyard shed ... even painting bad words on it ... it took about 9 months before they sent the retainered-lawyer to have a more-pleasant conversation before filing papers.

They also did some good. At 15 years into existence and after the housing crunch released, people found they could sell to national "be buy then rent houses" companies for a nice profit. That single company was about 5% of the houses away from being the majority property owner who could have voted the HOA out of existence, then it would be a free-for-all. They set new rule that required any house you buy you will live in. A second new rule (they did get away with this) said that no level-3 sexual offenders can rent the houses.

Been gone from there 4 years so cannot comment on the state of affairs there now.

How could they even enforce that? Are they checking IDs every week?

I have no idea. I just know those changes came close to when I moved. I was so tired of the clueless renters (Cuzzin Cletus and his semi-tractor) and the pig Farmer in the corner house who treated the neighborhood like a dirt farm. Their problems are not mine anymore.

That's actually not legal - Yet. Several bills (Congress and Senate) have aimed to do that and failed but there is one on the Senate Floor right now that will likely pass.
S.3690 - Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act

I was going to post it up here in the Ham Radio section under hobbies but the whole "no politics" rule made me rethink it. While I don't really find it divisive and polarizing, someone may be very Pro-HOA and spin it out of control. Instead, I'm using this tool to notify the Ham's in my area so they can support it or ask their elected officials to support it via USA.gov. My post here is only as evidence that it isn't a thing - not yet.
