Well, this was just the initial interview, with the HR Recruiter, to give me info about the company, compensation, etc..

My heart sank when the first thing she said was "So you said your salary expectation is for $XYZ. That's going to be a big problem, as this position is offering $30K less than that." And of course, in my head, I'm thinking "So if you saw what I listed as the salary I'm looking for, and this position is significantly less than that, why did you bother contacting me about the position?"....

So she goes on to explain more about what her understanding of the position is, and it doesn't sound anywhere near as technically involved as the online job posting, very similar, but like a much simpler level. Which, if true, I can see why it's only paying what she said it is, as that would be a more junior to mid level type job.

Anyway, I told her I would review our monthly expenses, see what we can cut out for a year or so, and what my bottom line salary could be. She will pass that along to the hiring Manager for him to decide if he wants to move on to an actual interview with me. My wife and I talked about it, and I grudgingly decided to lower my salary request by $20K, just so I can get a job, and I will keep looking for a better paying job elsewhere. I sent the new salary number to the HR Recruiter this morning, will see what, if anything, happens next. The one huge nice thing about this position, I do not believe there is any 7x24 on-call requirement for it. That will be a huge relief if it proves true, and I get this job. I've been in an on-call expectation role since 1994, except for a couple years. Meesa wantin' out of dat chit!

    Morning all

Turned a corner with this covid thing.

The test is more important, never question the test. It was painstakingly put together by a crack squad of college scientists who worked through the night to develop a precise method of determining a perfect personality trait measurement.
