There will be peaks and valleys of cars getting more affordable/less affordable. However the trend of average transaction price to income keeps climbing each year. Don't expect the car market to ever return to what is was in the 1990's when middle earner or lower-middle earners could afford a brand new car.

15 mil new cars sold per year. 360mil population … every year 4% of the population buys a new car … seems like the upper class only. The amount of new cars stayed pretty static since 2010. It always has been a rich man’s game

Sort of. Rich people buy cars and either quickly pay them off or just buy them outright. It’s the people who are buying cars well outside their means and getting painful loans that are really causing problems.

Part of that is because they don't make cheap new.
Most years it's closer to 17mm and the us population is closer to 330.

Plus lots of people can't drive and many live in big cities with out cars.

But yup... Gotta be a baller or stupid to buy new.

Repo's continue to climb. Car inventory is up. Interest rates are up. Poeple will/are fleeing the market.

Gonna be fun to visit the dealers in a year from now. Unless you want a doge/jeep/Chrysler. I hear they can't give those away

They can’t give them away because a v6 wrangler licks 80k and a grand Cherokee is up there also… they want Range Rover money for a 3rd tier domestic brand

As indicated above, Tundra prices are falling at an insane rate. $4000-8000 off MSRP made me ditch the deposit on a Gen 4 Taco and get a Tundra. Chrysler is screwed for sure. Lots filled with Jeeps and Rams here in the northeast.

I got a sticker and some cool valve stem caps...
Where I'm at they can't get rid of fullsize trucks or electric (besides Tesla)

For example... the Ford lot by me has rows of discounted Lightnings and Mach e's. F150's are 8-10k off sticker and have 0.9% for 72mos.

I think tides r changing for certain models but not all.

Local dealership has a 23 tundra for about $5k below srp.

Things are starting to tighten up.

In addition to big discounts off of MSRP, the MSRPs are dropping too.

How you think these folks are feeling? Plus the 4.5% and they didn't recieve the 7500 incentive as the original owner. I hope this was just play money for them. I like the lightning and if I could have bought the first base model for sticker I would have I think it was around 40k. But the dealers turned it to a sh1t show and Ford did nothing so screw them. Plus they completely ruined the raptor MSRP 2020 was 56k now it's almost 80k.

Out of curiosity I looked at the Lightnings just now online from said dealer. They r $10-17.5k off sticker. Ranging from 43-66k. The 66k is for the Lariat. They are also giving away home charging stations with a MachE purchase.

F150's look like 1.9% for 72mos and the Escape and Bronco Sports are 0%.

I think this is a look into a crash. I bought a 23 Tacoma TRD OR about 3 weeks ago and the local credit unions were only offering 6% on new cars. I got a few thousand off sticker and 3% 72mos thru Toyota.

Edit: Just checked the largest Ford Dealer in STL. They still are offering 0.9% 72mos for the F150.

That’s awesome. You can buy two lightnings today (a large and a small battery truck) for the price these idiots paid for one.

Yeah I think so. I believe Toyota screwed up on this pricing on the Tacoma by about 5% too high. It's correct that Tundras are now obtainable by as much as 10% BELOW msrp making some of them close to what a few stealerships think they can get for a new equivalent trim-level Tacoma. Local dealer has a basic 2024 Tacoma SR5 they got about a week and half ago. It's still there on the lot which bodes well. I know that dealer is about avg on dealer fees (meaning they suck) but otherwise likes MSRP so it's a good sign they can't get their normal MSRP (msrp meaning with the additions Toyota shoved on there) + too high dealer fees. They are soon to have a bunch more arrive so I think before long reality will set in and below msrp will become the norm on Tacomas. We'll see though. Could always be some bunch of idiots show up to buy them at the current MSRP but I really don't think so.
