Thanks. I see it as a $10k - $13k difference as all the dealers near me had markups above MSRP. The GMC was $8k off sticker so it seemed like a better value for a much nicer truck.

I got a quote from the local Toyota dealer. 2024 Tacoma Off road Premium. Leather, heated steering, 14"screen. $60,125 CDN.

So only $2k more than I paid for my Colorado 2023. Which I am getting a buy back on, nice looking truck, but quality is crap, 6 months of issue after issue.

So the Tacoma isn't that much more and also has Safety 3.0 standard on all Tacomas. You don't get all these features with the lower model Twins.

So I get the bolded, but on the Toyota you also don't get the payload, auto 4wd, towing or torque of the twins. I also believe the safety stuff is covered in the safety and the technology package that combined is still cheaper than the Toyota.

That being said, since you are going through a buyback with GM, I'm not gonna tell you the twins are the better buy lol.

Pick your poison sometimes. The tech package proved to be anything but safe or helpful when it never worked as designed.
On a side note I have a 1989 Mazda B2200 extra cab long box 2wd auto, bought bra d new, what a slug, but has been in for repairs less than my 2023 GM. Still have the truck and still runs, burns a little oil but reliable as heck.
Then there is my 09 Taco, I do all my own maintenance, no repairs needed yet, minus the new leaf spring packs Toyota installed for free, now a 4 leaf. The days of simple and ultra reliable trucks have left us.

Payload on the ZR2 is 1200 lbs. You have to get WT for high payload or the bare bones TB. Toyota has higher max payload of 1700 in lower trims. Apples to apples Toyota seems to have more payload. Towing over 6k lbs with any mid size is pushing it.

Just like any of the crap you see on YouTube, this should probably be taken with a grain of salt, but here is Car and Driver’s recent comparison of the two trucks:
    https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparison-test/a46685632/2024-toyota-tacoma-trd-off-road-2023-chevy-colorado-zr2-test/

The part that stuck out to me after reading all the whining about a turbo 4cyl on here was this:

    “Powertrain and Performance

On paper, the ZR2 should have crushed the Tacoma, as its high-output turbo 2.7-liter four makes considerably more horsepower and gobs more torque than the Tacoma’s similar but smaller 2.4-liter engine. Sure, the Desert Boss package adds weight, but only 180 pounds compared with a regular ZR2 we’ve measured. The 5106-pound Desert Boss still has a marginally better power-to-weight ratio than the 4671-pound Toyota, and its 24 percent torque-to-weight advantage is undeniable. In fact, we had an excuse ready had the TRD Off-Road been slower: “Of course it is. The ZR2 has 32 extra horsepower and 113 pound-feet more torque. The optional iForce Max with 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet will soon be available to level that playing field.”

Turns out, we didn’t need to deploy those qualifiers because the TRD Off-Road matched the ZR2 to 60 mph (6.8 seconds), in the quarter-mile (15.2 seconds), from 5 to 60 mph (8.1 seconds), and from 30 to 50 mph (3.9 seconds). Moreover, its quarter-mile trap speed was 92 mph versus the ZR2’s 89 mph, and its 4.7-second 50-to-70-mph passing time was seven-tenths quicker.

Away from the test track, the ZR2 doesn’t feel like it has an underhood advantage. In fact, it exhibits less gumption and willingness to respond to various throttle proddings. At best, this could be a minor plus when tiptoeing over rocks, where the ZR2 offered a wee bit more delicate control. Mostly, though, the Tacoma’s turbo 2.4-liter always felt more ready, willing, and able. Its transmission in the default setting was more eager to downshift and keep the party going than the ZR2’s was in Baja mode. As a bonus, the Tacoma’s mill even produces an intermittent whiff of part-throttle turbo whistle that senior editor Elana Scherr likened to a tooth-deprived six-year-old singing about selling seashells by the seashore. Its idle racket, on the other hand, is less endearing.

Despite its eager demeanor, the TRD Off-Road wins big at the pump, where its EPA estimates of 19 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined destroy the ZR2’s 16-mpg across-the-board (city, highway, and combined) ratings. The Chevy returned 14 mpg on our round trip to Borrego Springs, California; the Toyota averaged 19 mpg. This lopsided result was obvious at gas stops, where the ZR2 typically drank three additional gallons. Even though the Chevy has the larger fuel tank, the Toyota still delivers superior range.”

Major ooof... Once the iForce Max option is released, it will basically mutilate the motor in the ZR2. Not only in power, but in MPG as well.

Keep in mind the Colorado was redesigned last year so it’s expected the reliability would be questionable. I’m already starting to hear issues of the new Tacoma over on the 4G forum. My Prerunner was the most reliable truck I’ve ever owned with my 2000 Tahoe a close second. If this new Sierra holds up close to either of those then I’ll be very happy.

Finding 2024 AT4 loaded with all options at $5,000 off MSRP right now. If you can live with no power rear window, it’s a great alternative to a Tacoma with premium package for $7,000 more.

Looks good, is that basically a zr2 except for interior equipment quality?

Same motor output, different suspension. All Canyons have a 2” lift compared to a Colorado. They also all come with the HO motor the ZR2 has. An AT4X would be the ZR2 equivalent. But has terrible interiors.

I looked at a Colorado last weekend at Cars & Coffee, it was pretty nice. The interior looked like something that Chevy would make, which for me brought flashbacks of previous Chevy's I've owned that had cheap interior.

I’ve had Chevy’s too. The 1990 Chevy Silverado short bed with a 350 V8 was a blast. But it was, and will always be my last Chevy truck.

That is indeed a nice picture :amen: Also it's crazy to think that truck was 210HP, and weighed over 1000 pounds more than a Tacoma. It feels like we take for granted the modern technology available to us now.

Scrolling around online l am finding 4400 - 4800 pounds for a 90 silverado 4x4 RCSB V8, not appearing to be 1000 pounds heavier than a Tacoma.
