Interesting you mention it...I've noticed that mine differs from some of the ones I see here. What are the differences (aside from the latches). I also noticed it attaches to the truck via a different method. No c-clamps, just rail blocks and bolts.

Curious how these are sealed against water getting in to the cavity now, do you have a pic with the latch open?

Since customers are getting the new latches with current orders I sent an email to RSI warranty email inquiring about latches for older models and here was the response I got.

The new latches in theory are nice but they don’t latch easy like the older style. Really gotta push hard to hear that click, and yes they’re all adjusted properly. The other thing is when you put the key in to lock them, if you push the key in anymore then necessary it will pop the latch open.

@tacotrdyota Can the new latches be opened from the inside when locked from the outside?

That I don’t know. I will see when I get in. I imagine they would. The lick just prevents the push button from being pushed. It doesn’t seem like it would affect the inside release. But the handle/latch is a lever so maybe not.

I built mine; and re-torque Spring and Fall. Sometimes there is no change; sometimes it is considerable.

I torqued mine about 5 times yesterday. The foam settles and then 20 min later they tightened more.

I know the new latches open from the inside. I'm under the impression that this was the main reason for the redesign. I am curious if the lock status affects opening from the inside. i.e.- smash window and open hatch using interior buttons to gain easy access to entire bed vs smash window and have to remove items through broken window. I realize this issue would only apply to the EVO sport as the rear glass of the adventure cap can be protected with security mesh.

The ability to open from the inside is desirable when you are fiddling around inside and you need an open hatch - especially if you are sleeping inside. Not having to crawl outside to open the latches is a great addition.

My arms are long enough that I can open them from the little window, if needed... But it takes a bit of a reach. I usually crawl out.

In reality, once you break a window you pretty much have full access. I do not see much disadvantage. Any thieving Sh*t will mash & grab fast to make a run for it. I don't any of them will stop to ponder whether the latches can be undone from the inside.

Prying the hatches open is much discreet & quieter than a window smash. I'd do that before breaking a window... a small breaker bar will overpower the latches on any topper (If I were a thiving sh*t, that is...). Even solid hatches, or ones with security mesh can be defeated fairly easily in reality...

As it is often mentioned here; if someone wants it, they will take it. It is the unfortunate truth. I live in a pretty quiet area where people are pretty cool, fortunately. But when traveling through certain more urban areas, I often have a second look around if I have to leave the taco...

Do the locks open from the inside when locked? Or do they have to be unlocked?

I agree that with time and determination most anti-theft devices can be bypassed. However, the support frame/tracks inside the side windows would prevent large objects from being removed easily. Thieves try and move quick and if extra effort is required, they might just bail and move onto the next target.

This is :fingerscrossed:… once the RTT and Awning go on I assume they will at least weigh it down.
