It’s really more of a problem of I’m respected by everyone else and that’s seemingly threatening to him. To that I say, fuck you, I’ve earned that. (I’ve been there for five years and since the company was a four person operation. He’s been there a little over a year).

Conversely, I struggle like crazy to be an adult and a professional when I can’t respect the guy I work for. I know people do it all the time, but it’s just more energy to fake the respect (and hate yourself for selling out your integrity) on top of the energy required to do the shit that’s actually THE JOB.

As for the bolded stuff: Good lord, I’m sorry you had to deal with that. If homeboy doesn’t understand that two panels of the same material and different thicknesses still have the same density, that’s pretty astounding. Not surprising that he doesn’t understand that CTE calcs don’t depend on the geometry, just the delta-CTE. (I think… I’m just a dumbass sparky :D)

    Thanks, bud! I appreciate that.

This process has had some unforeseen benefits and one of them is a reinforcement of a core value of mine that relationships and experiences really are the best things in life and the rest is mostly just noise. You guys might be internet strangers, but the core group are good people and I appreciate the interactions with y’all.

I don't get how someone who is the head of an engineering department fails to grasp basic engineering principles.

And I'm with you, I can't fake it well. I'm barely professional as it is. But I am I firm believer that your supervisors and bosses are there to support you, and if they can't fulfill that role, they have no business being in that position.

    Preach!

I have a lot to do better as a manager, but this is the exact philosophy I strive for with my team.

I’ll just say that yesterday my boss did not do this in any way that a truly GOOD leader would.

It's sad a lot of people in higher positions don't see it that way.

Hell even in the car business this same principle applies - sure, being in a higher position sort of demands the employees to 'do as I say' (for a lack of better phrase) but ultimately, I wouldn't be in the position I was if it wasn't for their hard work.

And their hard work stems from the very customers they tend to that walk through our doors (whether it's parts, service, or sales).

Because those customers walking in are the very reason we're in business to begin with, so you can see where this is going.

I've seen my fair share of "bosses" (co-workers) that were in no way supporting our employees to become successful themselves.

    Sad really
