    Happy Friday everyone!

I wasn't early enough to see the unedited posts, but sounds like you had some distractions going on that contributed to your inability to remember exactly what happened. Thats no shot at you, we all get distracted, and most people around here wanna slam you for having a drink in the car while parking, yet they're driving 85mph down the road on their cell phones. Its easy to poke fun at somebody else, especially kicking them while they're down, or at least that seems to be the case around here most of the time. Without knowing all the details, but knowing how a vehicle works, I think its extremely safe to say you were not in park. That leaves drive, neutral, or reverse, and considering you went backwards, safe to say you were in reverse. The easiest explanation is you accidentally hit the gas in your cloudiness of distraction, but you seem pretty convinced that didn't happen, so we'll take your word for it. Vehicles don't just gun it by themselves, especially not violently, so the only other explanations are things that would cause your RPM's to raise (like turning the wheel, AC on, etc). These things still wouldn't be enough for the vehicle to lunge, assuming your foot was on the brake pedal. Idk if you've ever attempted to press the gas and brake at the same time, but the brakes (fully compressed) can actually hold a decent amount of throttle without the vehicle budging. All of this being said, it makes the most logical sense that your foot either wasn't on the brake (even though you thought it was), or your truck actually does have a demon. Being the internet, I think both are super plausible. No shame man, accidents happen. Its why you have insurance on both your vehicle and the home (hopefully).

    Damm that’s a nice ride!
They definitely don’t make them like that anymore.
    Love the rims!

I've always thought that modern brakes cam absorb much more power than engines can produce. With your foot firmly on the brake, it's hard to imagine that the truck can move. Have you tried to recreate the incident? That may be helpful, though do it in a safer location :). To answer your initial question, I have not experiences such behaviour in my '23 Tacoma TRD Sport.

Good luck in figuring this out, mate.

Only time I've encountered lunging in a Tacoma is when turning the steering wheel, in reverse, foot on the brake. The idle increase from turning the wheel can definitely make the truck lunge unexpectedly.

Thank you, that sounds a possibility. My wife does not have a TBI and it did similar to here from a stop light at a full stop and went forward. She will not even drive my new truck now at all she is scared of it.

No winter boots only wear them when snowmobiling lol. We’re Almost neighbors though we’re way up north by the border A’ lol. Have a great friend in Calgary that moved to edmington I was really close to the house so it did not have to lunge very far. Not to you but the soda was in my cup holder and the top came off the soda stayed in the cup holder I was completley stopped and getting ready to get out of the truck. This was not a distraction while driving but having a TBI my memory short term does not work is the biggest issue.

So I took my truck into our local Toyota dealer after it lunged into my home caused damage to my home and bumper. the service guy wrote down on my paperwork and told me all the new vehicles lunge its normal to do this while completely stopped with your foot on the brake. If that is normal seems like something my salesman should have mentioned. I am 52 and have owned many cars, and have never had one while completely stopped with my foot on the brake lunge ever in my life even a little let alone enough to cause an accident and damage my home. I am 100 percent sure I was stopped completly and had my foot on the brake and did not hit the gas. Now that the dealer wrote down on my paperwork this is normal do I have any recourse for toyota to fix the damage to my truck and home?. I have had it happen to me three times and once to my wife she will literally not drive our new truck now over this she is scared. Please let me know if this has happened to anyone else now that we have written evidence this happens and it was not me. Also seems like this is a problem that should have been fixed on the last year of the body style. Thanks for any input

There isn't much room in the cab of a Tacoma compared to full size trucks. The gas and brake pedals are quite close together. It's possible for your foot to be on brake pedal and partially hovering over the accelerator. If the brake pedal goes close enough to the floor you start pressing the accelerator as well.

I've never had an accident but have had this happen many times in the 17 years I've owned a Tacoma. If you press harder on the brake you're also pressing he the accelerator. If you recognize what is happening you move your foot to only be on the brake pedal.

This is easier to do if you're wearing boots, but it can happen anytime.

Yep. IIRC, first post mentioned a spilled drink that he tried to clean up. Sorry, not Toyota's fault. Foot not fimly on the brake, vehicle not in park, picking a cup, bumping a steering wheel (increasing engine RMP) = truck will move.
My Chrysler raise RPMs when AC is turned on or stwering wheel is turned, same as Taco, RAV4.
    Not Toyota's fault.
OP needs to sell the truck. He and his wife are afraid of it. Get something they have faith in.

Operator error. There is no "sudden acceleration" problem with the Tacomas. Or any other Toyota for that matter. A lot of hysteria, but the problems were all caused by operator error of some sort. That's regardless of brand.

i've never had a vehicle surge this much with steering inputs, and there's also an odd surge about 15 seconds or so after starting and putting it into gear. i notice the most when i've got the truck parked outside the garage, and reverse it back into the garage. the delay is enough that i'm nearly at my parking block when it surges, which can sometimes cause me to run over the parking block.

but i guess it's also the cost for ever-increasing engine efficiency these days. i've just adjusted my driving/braking style to adjust for the surges and deal with it.
