CV axle dilemma during ecgs bushing install

    I don't hate the design, but maybe something like the 2nd gen 4runners with a bolt on flange would be easier? Theres probably a valid reason why they chose the C clip method, since they started out with the flange method. Increased clearance is the first thing that comes to mind, but its not saving a whole lot of space.

    Yep... it's cheaper to manufacturer and more prone to failure.

    I can’t say I have ever heard of a case of a cv slipping out of the diff because of a c clip failure.

    Not failure in that sense, rather in the sense of needing to be "beaten out"; damage to the CVs, boots, etc.... the harder something is to disassemble, the greater the chance of damage and/or catastrophic failure leading to the purchase of new parts.

    Did the ECGS bushing install a week ago, also swapped out the CV axles. Just went to inspect everything and noticed the driver side CV axle sticks out a little more than the passenger’s. Also looking like a small leak and it’s possibly slinging diff oil everywhere?

    I went back in and tried to slam it in further with no luck. I was sure the bushing was in flush but might have to double check :bananadead:

    anybody else experience this and have advice?

    I did replace the seal and made sure it was flush, I might just have to go back in and double check everything

    The trick to getting the axle removed easily is its positioning. It must be pulled straight out. It doesn’t take a lot of force. If it doesn’t come out on the 1st tug, rotate it 15* and try again.

    Once the circlip is positioned with the opening at 6 o’clock, the axle will pop out easily.
