Never driven on the starter alone, but have used it to get the truck going when a slave cylinder went out and couldn’t use the clutch.

Lol my brother in law always had toys.
On our wedding day at reception.
We took off and went to burn and ended up in a sand pit with his lifted K-5.
Every one was pissed at me!

Probably seat belt Mike, some of the Tacoma configurations they have come up with have left me scratching my head.

Like the base model should absolutely come standard with a manual trans.

That’s why it’s called the “base model”. Should come with a cheaper transmission…

    Yeah definitely a head scratcher…

    Mmm K5. Love those things.

Love square body trucks/SUVs in general. What a cool era.

I never tried it either. Apparently it works wonders off-road in extreme situations.

It is so you don’t fry the clutch. When the slave cylinder went (actually happened to 3 of my Toyotas over the years) start it in gear, get going…pull it in neutral…blip the throttle…bang it into next gear…When stopping…slip into neutral…stop…shutoff…back into gear, repeat. Drove a whole week like that waiting for parts to come in so I could rebuild the slave.

My old 93 DLX died in a intersection one time, I used the cancel switch to drag it out of the road and into a parking lot.

Sad those days are slowly slipping away, now vehicles become bricked and can’t do much of anything with them except wait for a flat bad to drag them on.

    Haha holy shit.

Well isn’t the CSC button is for when you are stuck uphill and can’t roll back or you will die type situation? So to let the starter slowly crawl you up without rolling back?

Takes a little practice, but can be done. You should try it!

Yep, pretty much…or getting up over obstacles, it is an old old off-roading trick from way back. And to think we now have crawl control (and automatous ) The “driver” is becoming less and less part of the equation.

I did the exact same thing whole week and all . My 84 wasn’t a beast but it sure was a goat, it went places in 2wheel-drive where most trucks in 4wheel-drive couldn’t, I rarely ever had it in 4wheel-drive, only to pull someone out of trouble .IMG_3501.jpgIMG_3501.jpg IMG_3501.jpg IMG_3501.jpg

Nice truck! Had an ‘85 4Runner, loved that thing. Was out doing some mild rock crawling with it, and ripped off one of the rear brake lines. Got it home on just the e-brake and engine braking…love manual transmissions for that reason.

I get the feeling 80% of the members here hate the Tacoma, most posts are complaints on how shitty they are and how often we should be changing our oil.
