You run a 7th Gen Intel and thought you needed drivers for your CPU

I don't think you can shit on anyone for their monitor choice

nope. But ultrawide is cool. built in FOV slider for games = more better right?

I've been playing through all the halos on MCC again and hookup a controller to my pc and its great. Halo campaigns feel right on a controller vs keyboard and mouse and don't know why.

I'm a lucky dude cause I have the most patient and understanding wife ever

My old school build was at a stand still cause I realized suddenly my old/extra monitor doesn't even have a DVI port

The one that did I had given away

So the HDMI to DVI cable finally arrived and I got to work while hanging out with the little dude at the dining room table

Will have to get the latest drivers, then onto three-way SLI

    333mhz fsb for a multiplier of 7.5

It's clock is 2.5ghz but I'll mess with that later

Was a higher end cpu back in 2008

I'll get a better pic of it all once it's done ;)

Last pic I promise, but finally had time to get some drivers updated

Took a bit to get 3 cards recognized as this mobo was intended to run 3x 8800 Ultras (before the G92s released)

That and everything is beyond EOL so no support

Then I remembered why I put this together in the first place

    Yeah.
Not bugging me, I am enjoying watching the build. That thing is badass. How does Device Manager look?

Here's a better one with device manager -

    Screenshot (8).png

It's cool to see what games took advantage of being able to run on SLI and what ones don't - testing games from 2009 and earlier wouldn't be fair cause the 9800 GTX+ was top of the line.

    Portal 2 (released 2011) netted a healthy 115+fps running 1920 x 1080

    20240221133243_1.jpg

    20240221133721_1.jpg

Doom 3 BFG (released 2012) had some weird FPS cap that I couldn't disable, so it stayed at 60fps no matter what at 2560 x 1440

    20240221132449_1.jpg

    20240221132605_1.jpg

Fallout New Vegas on the other hand seems to only utilize a single card as I had to bring it down to 1680 x 945 in order to maintain +60fps

    Yeah.
Very cool, no unrecognized devices! Those games actually don't look too bad even considering their age.

The Core 2 Duo and Quad days were pretty good, one of my favorite CPUs. I went from a Pentium 4 3.4GHz that could heat a small house to a Core 2 Duo 2.4 that ran fast and cool, ran that for many years. That Pentium 4 NetBurst architecture wasn't so great. From what I recall, the Core 2 was developed by the team in Israel, based on the older Pentium III architecture. They had taken NetBurst as far as it could go and realized pure GHz wasn't the answer to performance.

They kept developing the Pentium 3 for their mobile parts, the Pentium M series. When Netburst failed, the Pentium M core was already available, Intel got very lucky in a way. They narrowly avoided their own Bulldozer moment.

Netburst, if I remember correctly, relied heavily on branch prediction and a long pipeline which ran hot when the branches failed or "bubbled", causing wasted clock cycles and excessive heat.

Got plenty of more games to install and run once the office is setup; I forgot about my EA Games (formerly Origin) so I've got my old Battlefield games to load up as well.

I do remember those Duo's; the 8400 Wolfdale is what every gamer had back in the day (I was one of those guys).

Back when 95 watts TDP actually meant 95 watts TDP.

Now, a 95-watt Intel part might draw 400 watts in bursts.
