NOW AVAILABLE, All New Redesigned HS 3 Leaf AAL

These are an "Add A Leaf", hence the term AAL so they add onto your current leaf pack. Progressive typically means multiple leafs which increase load capacity as more weight is applied. Progressives tend to ride better than single leafs but arent the best choice if your adding a good bit of weight to truck(RRT, heavy bumpers and other gear).

Depending on your current leaf packs and how you plan to use truck will determine if these will be a good choice for you.

How many miles on your truck?
How much weight has it carried?
How much weight do you intend to carry constantly?

I went with these on my truck because my leaf packs were like new and I'm not adding a bunch of weight. My truck does some occasional towing of a 4000 lb travel trailer and other typical truck duties. These HS progressive AAL have worked great for my needs and uses along with 5100's set at 4th perch. Here is a pic foe reference. Overloads were removed and I have a slight rake.

 

I get the AAL bit but figd they were replacing somthing in the pack... (still a Tacoma noob)

She seems like she towed (2nd owner), but nothin crazy. Still fit as a fiddle far as I can tell. I don't tow anything presently

Wanting the ass lifted a bit and a tad extra strength for weight in the back for those inevitable trips to Lowes w the ol lady and getting roped into moving stuff for friends/fam bc I have a truck and obviously nothin better to do

 

Gotcha. Do you currently have any front lift which has made the back end seem low?

 

Big thanks to @Headstrong_Offroad for the eibach kit with progressive AAL. Real easy install on the front and the rear, not needing to grind off the clamp on the leafpack is great. Did it in 5 hours or so.

 

I put the 2020 TRD OR springs/shocks (no 3g leafs though) all around after I got the truck. It lifted the front alot more than I thought it would and kinda rakes ass down now.

 

Looking at the HS for my AAL - how do you like them so far after these last two years?

 

Finally installed the Headstrong AAL kit on my 2019 TRD Sport Access Cab with a OVRLND camper installed. Pre install the rear measurement from the center of hub to the bottom of the fender was 20.5" which is around 1.5" of sag. I installed the 3 leaves, removed the factory overload, and installed the Timbren SES rubber spring. My logic was the Timbren system would replace the functionality of the stock overload spring. Post install measurement was 22.5" which is around 0.5" over stock height and I was aiming for maintain stock height so I am satisfied with the result. So far the ride quality is good and I think it is better over hard bumps. The Timbren SES ended up with around 1.25” gap when empty (camper installed only) which is on the high end of the recommended gap). I would recommend this set up for others with a truck camper looking to maintain factory ride height.

 

40k miles on my stock leafs, is this still something to consider or just replace the full leaf pack? Current measurements about 22.5 both sides that’s with a 1” block. So there’s existing sag.

 

It all depends on what you’re ultimately after. The AAL is a compromise compared to a custom leaf pack but the 3 leaf AAL is pretty nice. I wouldn’t expect it to lift more than 1.5” over the current ride height (not taking into account the block). I think the ride quality is good with this AAL setup. I installed the Timbren SES system to assist the springs when I’m hauling a load. This is good for me and how I use my truck. Time will tell how it holds up over time.

 

What rear shocks do you have with the HS Progressive AALs? Did you have to add any additional items along with the AALs? I’m currently lifted in the rear with a one inch block supported by Bilstein 5100 shocks but I want to ditch the block.

 

My rear shocks are

Bilstein 24-186728. I removed the overloads and was able to use my OEM U-bolts. So no, I don't recall needing anything else. I did brush grease between the leafs when I installed them to help prevent squeak.

My only complaint about these leafs is they eventually began to squeak(like all leafs without friction pads). I have to add grease between them from time to time to help with the squeak. I bought some friction pads and may add holes to the ends of the leafs to keep the friction pads in place.

 

Are your rear shocks 1.5” or higher?

 

I'm not certain. I provided the number of my rear shocks in my previous post. I believe they are the standard length so technically they might limit maximum droop IIRC. But if I understand things correctly, the longer shocks will limit max up position.

It’s still almost leveled out with that four wheeler in the bed. What’s your front lift?

Oh ok. I have the same but set on top perch for 2”. I wanna get the HS 1.5 progressive AALs so that I can have the rear lift with just the leafs and have a very slight rake. 2 front 1.5 rear.

 

That will look great IMO. The 2/1 lift often looks high in the front to me. I still consider going to 2" in the front on my truck and feel that combined with the 1.5" progressive AAL is a perfect combo for the money.
