Hmmmm…thinking I should have ponied up the extra coin and got the Sport, just got back from doing a Sunday drive in my 1st Gen….sure do miss driving a manual trans. Sport is the only way to get the manny in the ACLB. Yet another one of those “why Toyota, why!?”

Why was it never offered in the ACLB SR or OR trim??? *scratching head*

My best guess is that they just wanted to make more profit. Crazy guys like me want manual no matter what.

In order to get a DCSB MT up here, I had to get a sport with a premium package. Other option was the Pro but at 60k CAN all in, no thanks. Sport already cost me a small fortune at 50k. Pro was definitely my dream truck though. Scoop, locker, A trac, fox suspension… mmmm

They didn’t even include JBL premium in the MT pros cuz they know folks would still buy them. All AT pros have JBL premium.

I would have loved a DCSB SR MT. Gimme power mirrors, windows, rubber floors and I’m good to go. Don’t even care for AC, I only use it cuz of the wife.

If Toyota didn’t offer 3G MT, I would have been shooting the shit at frontier forums.:)
Nissan pro4x is a solid machine.

Yeah they love to bump you to the next trim level. I just want a manual trans and not all the other stuff.

Would have to swap out the suspension on the Sport to get it my liking.(guess I “could” live with the skewp :p). Between the upcharge of going to a higher trim plus redoing the suspension it was pushing $6000 extra. And already spending more than I wanted. Have other hobbies rather the spend that money on, seemed silly just to get a manual trans.

And again with the 4G, the manual only comes in trims/cab configurations I have zero interest in. Toyota loves to brag about they kept it, but only for a select few.

i've always suspected that the lack of a manual 4dr/long bed reasons were that it was a longer wheel base/extended frame, which would've required different fuel trim, and wheel speed tables for all the vehicle computers, which would be cost prohibitive for a low-production sub-model.

i mean, i wish it wasn't so, but after reading what went in to the toyota 86/brz engine management manual table calculations, i've realized that it's far more difficult to make a manual transmission vehicle in 2020+ than it ever was before, because they need to calculate for the 'human element' of the transmission.

The refreshed Frontier wasn’t out quite yet when I bought. Engine was going out in my ‘99 and needed a new truck like now!

Do like them, but my senior tech buddy told me to stay away from Nissans, they are good up until 100K, then they start nickel and diming you. Though every single Toyota I have owned has. Just did a tensioner pulley on my 45K mile 3G, that would have been a $500 repair bill if it wasn’t covered under the extended warranty. They still made me buy the belt at $83.

Would have loved a DCLB with a manual. Yep bet you are right, I get waaaay worse gas mileage in my 1G since I don’t short shift it like how the AT does in my 3G, that and use more engine braking in my 1G.

Was hoping for a 4th Gen SR ACLB, manual trans, with the linked rear suspension…that would have been my perfect truck. Toyota told me to go pound sand. Ha!

Thought the 1st Gen Tundra was a great sized truck. The 4G is almost the same size now, makes about the same power as the 4.7 V8, while getting much better fuel economy. Would have been an updated version of that perfect sized Tundy, but oh well.

i'm impressed you got enough of a response from them to get that far.

when i looked into a 3g 4dr, long bed, all i got was:

What’s the symptom of tensioner pulley, wobble or noise? Just wondering how you knew it?

I'm glad both our daughters learned how to drive manual back in 2013...youngest still drives manual: VW GTI/Mini Cooper.

Wife was raised in England and never took lessons because it was too expensive.

When my wife did learn, we were in Abilene, TX (Dyess AFB) and she learned on our newly purchased 1996 Accord Sedan LX Automatic.

I tried to learn my wife stick-shift transmission with a 1993 Isuzu Rodeo but it was not meant to be.

Hence, the decision to own automatic vehicles...so any car I chose could be driven by my wife.

It is unfortunate that manuals have taken a back seat to industry standards.

It's been since 1993-94 that I've owned/driven a manual; I haven't forgotten how to drive one but as is known, every MT has it's own clutch engage range.

Ha! I did write a letter of my disappointment of the manual and loss of the AC…they did give me one of those “Sorry to hear…” letters back.

There was a slight high pitched sound at idle. Almost like a cricket. Told the tech and he immediately found it. Which got me thinking it might be a common issue, but not officially announced.

they really haven't. vehicle options have always been marketplace-generated.

if everyone stopped buying automatic trucks, and only the manual trucks sold, all automakers would reverse course. same as vehicle color options. white/silver/black remain the most common colors as they consistently sell better than metallic orange or grabber green.

the worst part? the harder one looks into design/purchasing, the more boring we as humans become...

you know the part where everyone complains that "new ____ year vehicles all look the same"?

Yep, vehicles have looked the same with very little tweaks for a long time. And if a manufacturer strays from the norm, they are chastised for it. Cybertruck for an example, a lot of hate over the design, but is just a rehashed version of wedges found in the late 60s early 70s.

    Agreed.

My needs were fairly basic. Missed my 1992 4x4 with the 3.0slow 5 spd after 14 years of ownership.

    1992 Toyota.jpg

After 14 years in a family machine, 2003 Pathfinder. It was worn out. Wife and I wanted a Toyota truck again.

Had to be a 2nd or 3rd gen. 6' bed. Any color.

No affordable used Tacoma's in fall of 2020.

Looking at new. SR5 would have been good enough really. 2wd are not an option. 4x4 are the only choice in Canada.

However, going into retirement wanted to splurge a bit.

First choice was TRD Off-road DCLB. Not available in Canada.

Next choice was TRD Sport DCLB 4x4. Dealer had three. 2 in black and one in white. Not going to try and keep a black truck clean.

    So white it is.

    White Taco.jpg

Been an awesome truck so far. Just oil changes. It's a daily driver, summertime road tripper to the cabin and light off roader.

Any Tacoma you get is an great choice. Not for everyone tho, but Toyota makes a great truck with little quirks.

The purse swinging here gets entertaining at times.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I don't know how to describe the trim level of my 2020 Tacoma SR5. Checking the VIN it comes up as a SR5.

    Some of the features,
v6, 4 wheel drive with 4-lo, w/towing package, hitch and transmission and oil cooler. 4-door cab. short bed.
Sequential LED turn signals, Auto dimming LED headlights and LED fog lights.
Color keyed front and rear bumpers, door handles, side mirror arms and wheel fender flares.
JBL premium with 7-speaker system. Automatic LSD. CAT back exhaust with "Toyota" tip.
Adaptive and static cruise. Power port in the cab and bed. Smart key FOB w/remote start and kill.
Heated leather front seats with power control on the driver's seat. Dual zone climate control.
Scoop hood, sun and moon roof. Electric sliding rear window. Android auto and apple play.
Heated side mirrors, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control, Daytime Running Lights
Child Safety Locks, Integrated Turn Signal Mirrors, Front Tow Hooks
Traction Control, Blind Spot Monitor, Lane Departure Warning, Cross-Traffic Alert.
    Alarm, Back-Up Camera
    Vehicle Anti-Theft System, Auto-Off Headlights
Rear Parking Aid, Adjustable Steering Wheel, Steering Wheel Controls
Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel, Trip Computer, Universal Garage Door Opener
Variable Speed Intermittent Wipers, Electrochromic rearview mirror, Power Mirrors

Does not have the creep-crawl feature.
Probably more stuff that I have not yet noticed.
Gray in color and list price $43,700 new in 2020.
I have tried to build the same 2020 at the Toyota web site but can not add some of these features on a SR5...?

After taking my 1G for a Sunday drive, man I still love that truck. Feels like an old pair of well worn favorite pair of Levi’s. Think should I have bought a new truck(?) then jump in my 3G…oh yeah, this thing is pretty dang nice. Still has that familiar feel to it but a new pair of Levi’s that need to be broken in.

I think the only way not to get it is to get the utility package. I think that vehicle is intended for only one person in it, very rarely a passenger.

Yep. Toyota lists that all SRs don’t get the dual climate, however the V6 does. Plus auto DRL, power heated mirrors, Adaptive CC (which I dislike and don’t use), dampened tailgate, rear slider, intermittent wipers, and few other creature features that are nice to have. Don’t realize how nice they are until I jump into my 1G that doesn’t. Do like the the center screen for the mpg gauge and outside temp too, used to think the media screen was silly, have grown to love it, especially for gps maps and my music.
