Looking at a 16' toy hauler from dunesport. Does or has anyone used these? Should I have a problem towing a 16' liteweight hauler. 06 dc prerunner v6.

I have been looking into the same thing or smaller. According to them the Taco will pull it. Take a look at their customer pics section it has a couple of Tacoma owners in it along with a FJ cruiser.

I'm thinking about getting the same one. My plans are to make myself a fast trip to Mesa, Az, then take my time on the way back and use the toyhauler to stay at rv parks. I was running weight calculations on this including have the fresh water tank full, load with bike, and food and camping gear and it puts up a weight of about 5800 lbs., oh and thats with people in the truck too.

So, I finally got the toy hauler from Dune Sport. I got a 16' Typhoon with a weight of 4100 lbs dry weight. a little more heavier than anticipated, but it was very much doable. I averaged about 60-65 mph in the mountains of Arizona and New Mexico and mostly in the hills of Texas. Once I got to flatter ground I could constantly do about 70mph with my rpm at about 2900. Mileage definetly took a huge hit by at least half of what i normally get not pulling anything. What hurts about this trailer is how tall it is, basically creating a parachute effect. I don't really plan on doing trips further than 250 miles about 1 once a month so It shouldn't be too bad, but It has already crossed my mind that two more cylinders will be better. here is a photo of us just about an hour past Tucson, AZ at a rest area and let me tell you, I saw a whole lot of Taco bretheren driving some pimped out Taco's there. But I see why.

I bought the 16 ft dunesport and my toyota 6 would pull it but I couldn't go over 45 unless going down hill and I would have tore up the my truck , So I bought a 1/2 then I find out the toy hauler is unsafe and was made out of used parts and not new . I paid 17,000 for a new one and got screw over and I am suing them , and they don't want to fix it and it is still under warranty

Paul, I think your WDH needs an adjustment, or is the front that high without the trailer attached? Kind of almost looks like your front wheels are about to lose ground contact.
Going to a scale would give you the ultimate answer, but a measurement would do it as a first check.

Oh, I just realized this is an old message.
And it looks like Paul upgraded to a half ton, lol. Just like most of us that are not really happy with TT's behind the Tacoma. I just came back from dealer negotiations myself ... :)

Old, but yeah, I ended up just getting a half ton and now am much happier pulling. what I like is now I can just set my cruise control to about 63mph and let the truck do the work and it does a pretty good job.

I bought a custom 15' TH from these clowns in 2010. I picked it up in Mesa and drove away, attempting to tow it with my 08FJC. Now, let's all be honest with each other-all trailers are made from essentially the same super cheap parts for the last 40 years. Just go look in an old classic camper. To add to that, Toyota is famous for under powering their trucks, so Toyota's rec towing capacity is grossly over rated. That being said, i could not get much higher than 45 unless 7 mpg is your goal. By my math, that's less than 100 mi before you hit the point of no return to a gas pump. Not much of a vacation in my book. The empty tongue weight was 685#, double what it should be. I never weighed the entire unit, but I can well enough imagine how misrepresented the numbers are on their site.
Basically, if you want a cheapass TH, have a full size truck, and love fixing things, then Chance is waiting for your call. Personally, I would never consider this company again for a trailer. Don't get taken. Check out the Four Wheel Drive popups. Sick.
