    Hey guys,

I found a great first gen that I had my buddy go check out and test drive and I ended up putting a down payment/hold on the truck for me to get out there and buy it. I am buying from a small used car dealership and he said that he will be selling it to me wholesale so I will just pay the purchase price and receive the title and then I need to pay the taxes and do registration in my home state. Does that sound right to anyone who has ever done this before? I'm just trying to make sure i have my ducks in a row with the purchase and also having some sort of license plate/registered vehicle for driving on the highway so I don't get constantly pulled over. Any advice on the topic is appreciated. Thanks! Pics for attention...

ask for a Temp tag. they should get you one to travel home. unless you said you were going to deal with all that at the DMV local to the state in which the vehicle is currently in. get everything, Bill of sale, the title, anything that shows you purchased the vehicle, and make sure its all signed off where needed I've purchased cars from different states and had someone not sign one line and guess what they made me reach out to the prior owner to get one signature. had to get a bit creative on that

You'll get the best answer from your state DMV. FWIW, I've bought out of state several times. Some states issue paper temporary tags, some don't. You still need insurance to drive it home. On one truck, I made a $500 deposit, flew across country, made sure I wanted it and had a bank check and cash with me. I made the bank check $2k less than agreed price in case something wasn't right and I could renegotiate. I recently bought a first gen in PA, but saw the truck first, we did all the paper work and $$ through mail and I showed up with my plate ready to drive. Lot's of ways to do it -- Or get it shipped. I was surprised it was only $400 Penn to VT. In the end we made a family trip out of it to PA and I drive it home. But yes, bottom line is you pay tax in your state. good luck -

^^^This^^^ And I would add call the state DMV where you are buying it and ask the same questions. You don't want to get stopped somewhere out in the middle of nowhere and have authorities tow the thing away, because one piece of paper or signature is missing.

You should pay the dealer for the truck. Make sure you get a signed bill of state and all of the title is signed. You can contact the DMV for a temp tag. Usually good for at least 3 days. You can add the truck to insurance through whatever app so you'll be good there. Drive it home and you'll do licensing and registration in your home state.
