The stain has got some nice depth and it's not too dark. I've seen too many times people use ebony on gorgeous wood.

Over the years I taught dozens of workers to read tape measures.
I ordered the ones with the fractions on them for them - they thought I was the best guy in the plant.

Even if they can read a tape we found giving them the easy readers cut down on mistakes - if a worker is going to use a tool 100 times a day it is worth it to give them the easiest tool to use.

Agree, I have seen it too - nice wood with a stain that robs it of all the pop.

The satin polyurethane will really give it a bit of depth.

I’ve got tape measures stashed in drawers inside the house, in my tool boxes, and in both vehicles. I keep this one close to the laser. I prefer the metric system! :crapstorm:

    One more post tonite.
This Maple has quite a bit of spalting, which, to me, means crazy wood grain that looks almost 3D and will change color depending on where you look. I kept the stain light so you can still see the grain for sure.
Here is a pic of one of the tops. You can see the circles, even with just stain.

Reminds me I need to have a mass clean out of the garage. I’ve got crap everywhere.

    * It is furniture chain in the Northeast that sells overpriced crap made of MDF board and vinyl decals - stuff falls apart in a year or two.

Thanks Rusty. I could have built these a dozen different ways and all of them would have been easier and quicker and cheaper. But, the idea of building a table, with a shelf, out of only four pieces of wood , was the equivalent of a friend in childhood saying "I double dog dare you!" Well, you can't back down when you have been double dog dared right?
It was challenging, especially with not having the specialty tools that would have made it an easier build.
But now is just the finishing and I am okay with that.

Do not ask a Canadian abooot measuring anything! They are worse than us lol. It seems they pick and choose which system to use, depending on the thing to be measured haha.
Area and length in imperial, speed and temp in metric...

If we don't push ourselves in our pursuits they can become "just another job".

Just thinking of the satisfaction you must feel having "won the challenge" makes me smile. :)

Lol yeah, this is the equivalent of jumping off the roof and walking away while your buddies were not stupid enough to jump...

Gorgeous work Hipsi, it would be an all time funny if you made a 1:32 scale table of exactly the same material, and presented it very dramatically to the persons you promised it to, while keeping a straight face. Only to unveil the real table slightly out of sight after 30 seconds of awkward silence.:rofl::rofl:
