The past couple of cars I bought came with a can of fix-a-flat and a harbor freight 12 inflator.

Apparently we now live in a world where those in control simply change the definition of common words to fit their deception.
When I meet with the dealer management later today I hope to get a chance to ask them how it feels to be caught in the middle of the old "bait and switch" deceptive practices (that they're so famous for). But I no longer expect them to be forthright with anything they say. Once again, I expected better from Toyota.

Then the placard on the door should say as such and not list a fullsize spare tire and its dimensions and PSI.

This is a garbage move, period.

Likely why the Trailhunter has a different exhaust pipe. Should be interesting to see what they come with.

They had to push the rear wheels further back to accommodate the new coil suspension, re-routed the exhaust, and even run the fuel filler opposite of the tank, which itself had to be reshaped and reduced in volume. I’m half surprised they’re even able to fit anything bigger than a donut.

I’ve seen new ones with what appears to be full size spares underneath; you can’t miss them b/c they look like they hang a little low. Maybe they are a little concerned with the exhaust piping running too close to rubber. Either way, good luck getting Toyota to make right on yours. They definitely owe you one.

The truck TFL bought has a temp spare. You can see it in this video at 20:35. That is absolutely ridiculous on an off-road truck. What’s even worse is Toyota changed the wheel hub and lug sizes so you can’t even use a used wheel from another Toyota as a spare. I’m sure Toyota will sell you one for $899 though. Assholes.

    The question here is:
    1. Is the description wrong on the Toyota site
    2. Did they actually put a wrong size tire in there

I’m assuming it’s more 1 than 2. Given that it is an sr5 it was likely a cost cutting measure that didn’t make it on the Toyota site correctly

TFLs truck above is a TRD off-road. It’s not the highest package though. Maybe you need the most expensive upgrade package to get an actual usable spare tire for off-roading.

Door sticker is blurry from screen cap, but shows clear enough listing for size different from what is equipped.

DRB, thank you for this information. Prospective Tacoma buyers can now be aware of a few glitches when shopping around.

The Toyota site & vin data detail both show "full size". So it all depends on how one defines "full size". Since they avoid giving a number size completely, I suppose that allows them to substitute anything they can make the most profit on, to hell with what is safe and satisfactory for the customer.

Is it really a full size if the diameter is similar but the width is half the size? The word temporary should be in the description regardless of what size the tire is.

Someone needs to see what brand tires are on their Tacoma including the spare. Then go to that manufacture tires website and look at the specification sheet under diameter and compare both diameter to the full size tire to the skinny spare and see how far they are off.

I know if you drive on a smaller diameter spare for a long time if can mess up the spider gears in the differential overtime.

The TRD OR comes with 265 tires and a 245 spare. The SR5 comes with 245 tires so it would make sense that the spare is slightly smaller like in the OR.

Spare tires are going to the way of the DoDo. Next thing you know wheels will be an option or a subscription service lol.

It’s one thing to not have a spare on a little commuter car, still dumb though but to not have a matching full size spare on a truck meant to drive offroad, carry heavy loads or tow is idiotic and unsafe. Can we blame Tesla? The Cybertruck doesn’t have a spare at all.

I wonder if any of the Tacomas at the press days, advertisements or demo vehicles had the donut? I don’t remember any reviewers mentioning it. If true that’s a bait and switch.
