Withe stock 100w/400w inverter, I can't dry and perm my hair when I go camping. What all is needed to make the conversion to a larger inverter that can supply 15amps+ to the 120outlet in the bed? I'm not looking to run this for hours at a time. 20 min at a time would be more than enough.
    • Ideal location for the inverter?
    • What size wire to the inverter?
    • Solid core 14awg is enough for a house, what size is needed when is stranded copper?
    • What type of wire shielding?
    • Deep cycle battery (dual battery is probably ideal)
    • Stock (10325-270XP) alternator does 170a at idle and 14.7v (2500watts) so I think that has enough headroom but I don't know what the ignition, efi, etc take.
    • Is the stock outlet in the bed robust enough to be rewired?

IMO something like a jackery might cost a bit more but will be way less of a headache, and be more portable / convenient.

That's not a bad idea. They can also be charged on 12v right?

The real question is, what camping appliance runs on AC, and does it HAVE to run on AC?

Any conversion/inversion loses a lot of juice in the process. And amazingly enough, we really seem to be in the age of DC right now, you can find a version of almost anything that operates on 12V. Except air conditioners and hot tubs. But almost anything aside from that.

So instead of trying to mod the truck to match the appliance, find an appliance that matches the truck.
