This is BS, one of the perks of owning a truck is the full size spare. Not anymore it seems. Waiting for an influencer video explaining how this is a feature, not a bug, lol. Sorry OP.

There is 100% no reason for a pickup truck not to have a spare. I dont care if it has leaf suspension, coils, hybrid, etc. Its a truck it should come with a full size spare.

It saves 20 pounds so we get 20 more pounds of payload. Winning. It also helps Toyota save money and keep the overall cost of the truck low for us. Oh wait…

'Just returned from the meeting w/ dealer management and it appears that my relentless "browbeating" just may yield some positive results. In the face-to-face discussions, they did agree that the published spec of "full size" should mean the same size as the 4 other wheels & tires. They told me that they "have filed a claim w/ GST (Gulf States Toyota)" about the downsized spare. At that point, I told them I concurred with them that both they and I were deceived by the published spec's and that shouldn't be the way GST & Toyota does business. Further, they assured me that the real full-size tire/wheel is on order & should be here tomorrow. And get this; they gave me a $25 gift card to apologize for the confusion. So did I find a Toyo dealer with some integrity? We'll see, I'll report when I have the new spare in hand.

Sounds good. Make sure they actually give you a wheel that fits the 2024.

Tesla isn't the only company ditching spares. They weren't even the first.

You cannot tell for sure what is there.

I’m not sure Toyota would call that a temp spare, but the rubber certainly doesn’t match the tires that came with the truck.

Zoom in or watch on a bigger screen. The tread pattern on the truck king spare matches the rest of the tires. It also hangs lower.
TFLs spare is clearly the same temp tire as the users here.
The letters TEMP from @longtimetoyfan photo means temporary use no matter what Toyota says.

I figure that the real full-size 245/70R-17 will mount about 2-1/2 to 3" lower than the temp. (If I do any actual offroading I'll take the FJ Cruiser.) But as the pic shows, it won't be below the hitch, but about the same height/clearence. Strange that the crappy temp has black paint on the alloy, except around the lug holes, must be for exposure/corrosion?

The above shows what squirrels (rodents) can do in only 10 days of a 0-10 degree cold snap, on my 2012 TRD offroad. The shop just called to say it's fixed, hope their right. I'll bet a dealer would have insisted on a completely new wiring harness @ about $3000 + labor.

I just watched a YouTube video on a 2 wheel drive Sport model and it clearly shows the cheap spare tire during the review.

That squirrel damage sucks. Where is that located on the truck?
I’m constantly fighting those bastards chewing wires on my boat.

I don't recall any reviewer saying what was supposed to be there. Nor taking actual video evidence of the spare tire. Only a side view of the new 4 link suspension.

Toyota probably told them not to film back there like the rear seats.

Almost everyone has filmed the rear seats. Many even sitting in it to show the clearances they get at their body size. A few have been quick glances from the door, though.

The rodent damage picture shows where the wiring mega-bundle goes through the firewall below the brake master cylinder, the only wiring extension into the cab. That one spot allowed them bastards a dandy location for nest building. BTW The shop that fixed it only charged $140, way below what I expected. I'll take a pic later to post, but I'll be adding additional wrapping to prevent future damage. (Hard for me to understand, but I have neighbors who encourage the squirrels by putting out feed, even when there are numerous Oaks and Pecan trees right close.)

So the 4th Gen now has 2 less cylinders,
    Unproven reliability, smaller fuel tank,
Fake spare tire and a much higher Price!
    I think I’ll keep my 23 Off-Road.

I have a crazy old lady neighbor that throws whole peanuts around her yard for the squirrels. It drives me crazy.

This SR5 is clearly shown to have a T tire per it's door jamb sticker.

Curious if this is mentioned in any of the toyota literature.
