I'm not going to say it's the right fix... But lube guard shudderfix works pretty good...

I've been doing a drain/fill on the trans every 2 oil changes to try and cycle fluid out, I'm thinking in the truck's previous life it just wasn't cared for and this is one of the many results of that.
I've heard a ton about lube guard, I think whenever I get around to a full fluid exchange is when that will be added in. Figure it can't hurt

I recently added a bottle of lube gard during a simple drain and refill. I can attest it’s good stuff!! Smooth shifts and operation

    Its me, I'm the problem.
I cracked a valve cover the first time I did the job. I was blindly trusting a cheap torque wrench and learned a lesson from it.

I've pulled the valve covers 3 times now and finally have them sealed (the 3rd time was to fix a leaking cam plug). I remember being nervous the first time but it gets easier every time.

Or at least it was easier, there's a handful of turbo components in the way now making it slightly more difficult.

If you end up doing the valve covers it might be worth checking the valve clearances while you're in there. I didn't and now I've got to open it back up

Pulled the valve cover today to fix an oil leak. The spark plug seals stayed on the tubes…. The tubes were completely full of oil… those seals were installed by a Toyota dealer in 2017, they’re obviously not OEM.

    3RZ was running strong anyway!

I got it all fixed up with new seals and new plugs.

Replaced the LBJ’s today on my ‘99. Based on the history of the truck that I have, they have never been changed. So I figured after 237,882 miles, it needed to be done. The originals didn’t look bad but I wasn’t taking any chances.

Matt, do you recall if these are sold as a set or individually? I can't locate anything on their product page on count. @ $59 I'd hope it's for the set to do the VC job and not individually

pfft! disregard. Title says it all. Billet Half Moon Set.

So Lubegard Transmission Flush and then refill with OEM transmission fluid and then add lubegard something else?

My symptoms are clanging initial shifts when cold and randomness. Shifts feel a bit sloppy but it's not a double clutch hot modernness.

@Speedytech7 - please add any comments here.

Your symptoms sound more like sticking accumulators but a fresh drain and fill with Valvoline MaxLife is what I'd do, it's good shit for high mile transmissions that take Dexron. For the symptoms others were having I'd also add in a vial of this https://www.lubegard.com/products/isf/... most places have it. But you might find that just the fresh MaxLife will help you, it has friction modifiers and seal conditioners in it already.
