    Hello community,
I have bigger size tires and obviously my gas mileage is not good, I was looking to regear my truck, but I’m seeing online prices of what people paid to do theirs, and I can’t really afford to throw that much money. I have 2wd 5 lug Tacoma . Any advice ? I got the 2.7L automatic transmission.

No, it won't hurt not to regear.
You won't hurt the engine any more than you would with a regear.

I guess an argument could be made about the transmission if it's an Auto.
But the A340 transmission is pretty bullet proof.

    It's a 2.7 with larger tires.
I venture to say, he already is "diving slower".

Sorry if i offended, I do agree with TNshooter. A regear will not hurt the truck at all. Just expect to have higher rpm when in overdrive and such. Since you have the 2.7. Its a 4.10 ratio from the factory. Tnshooter can maybe give more insight, maybe a 4.56 ratio? Just make sure if yours is a 4wd to buy gears for your front axle to. Or else youll have a bad day when you engage 4wd

    Yes. You are fine.

Unless you have an automatic and the transmission is locking/unlocking the converter constantly.
If so, drop down a gear. The converter constantly locking/unlocking creates heat and wear. This can damage the transmission.
Anyways, this likely isn’t going to happen unless you are running real big tires or towing.

Have you recalculated your MPG, taking into account your larger tire size?
What size tire are you using now?

You could buy a lot of extra gas with the money you'd spend on a regear

    Is that helpful enough?

    I doubt it. But maybe.

    The question is, why?

You will to buy 2 new wheels.
    Tire rotations are gone too.
Sounds like you’d be solving a “problem” with a problem.

Just use a lower gear and buy more gas.
Or go to a smaller tire and be done with it.
