I dunno. I do know on the OR's I saw it had a 245/17 listed as the spare on the sticker though. I bet someone at the factory got on a roll and oprah'd all the spares with T tires lol.

@DRB777 brought up a valid issue. I personally think this is a chicken shit move on Toyota’s part. The spare on a truck should match the tires that came with it. If I was hauling or towing something, I’d want a sturdy spare. As much as these trucks cost, they should not be skimping on this item.

I'll definitely be adding a proper spare and a matching wheel, The donut might actually come in handy as a secondary spare for some longer trips off-road. Pretty lame though, My 2nd gen Frontier Pro-4x came with a fully matching wheel & tire and was over $20k less than a 4th gen TRD OR!

I think most of us would agree with you but technically he wasn't cheated out of anything. However shit move nonetheless by toyota.

Inflation took our damn fullsize spare! Just kidding. It's the penny pinchers at Toyota.

Seriously though I find it weird the OR is spec'd with a FS spare and the SR5 is not? I really wish OP would drop a pic of his door tag and either end this, or add more mystery.

I’m pretty sure his door tag matches what he got. He’s lucky he is getting a new wheel and tire.

I really hope Toyota rethinks this lame decision.

Surprised the YouTubers didn’t notice and bring it up. Or Sheldon… chief fuck head.

Why does the door tag matter? If Toyotas specifications at the time of ordering/purchasing the truck said full size spare then they owe you a full size spare regardless of what stupid sticker they put on the truck.

So define full size vs same size. Looks like even the ORs do not even get the same size tire and I would be all the other trucks do not include a same size spare.

Comparison on what the SR5 comes with and it's spare.

Dude, why are you defending the mega corporation screwing over its customers? You’re taking the fan boo nonsense to a whole new level. A full size tire is a full size tire that matches the other 4. It always has been and always will be. A temporary spare which is what they got is not a full size tire. No one but you thinks that and clearly Toyota knows they screwed up as they are giving the OP the wheel and tire he deserves.

I am not defending anyone. The fact of the matter is that the OP left the dealership with what he paid for. He did not get screwed. Does it suck that Toyota did this....Yes. Go read what I said on post 68. And Toyota is not giving him shit and neither is GST. It is the dealer that is doing it.

It clearly says full size spare on the specs on their website. What’s next swapping in a hair dryer for the turbo to save some more money?

The spare is a Good Year while the four on the truck are BF Goodrich.

They are running fast and loose with the definition of a full size spare.

I think what YOU expect at this point would be called a matching spare… which comes with the same type wheel and tire as your four other wheels and tires.

Now full-size spare simply means something that has a same overall diameter, a skinny pizza cutter tire like that would probably qualify.

The question still stands on whether this is a documentation fuck up vs a factory fuck up.

If the writing stated 37” spare tire, would one then demand one ?

It would have been just as easy for Toyota to specify the tire size they intended to provide as it was to write "full size" in the spec sheet.

Specify clearly what will be provided. The end user may be disappointed, but at least they won't feel like they were scammed.

BTW I have yet to see a poverty spec TRD with the AC bed outlet that is shown as standard.

Toyota hasn't cheaped out all the way on the new Tacoma... just yet... i was told at an Enterprise Car Rental recently that some rental vehicles don’t include a spare tire to save on space and weight... a repair kit is provided... it is a sealant in a can... do-it-yourself likely...
