To coincide with my previous question, I have another question. From what I have read the last couple weeks when you lift your Tacoma if lifted to much you run into issue such as a bearing issue and or alignment/ needing a uca. With that being said where is the happy medium of lifting your truck but not causing a bearing issue to have to replace? Will bigger tires cause that bearing failure? And at what point in height of a lift call for a aftermarket uca?

Well if I can level it and it would clear the tires that I would like to throw under it for ground clearance for off-roading then I would just go that route to have a clean look. I figured once I put skid plates, bumpers and a winch on it I would have to do some lift or re spring the front and rear to accommodate the weight

Anecdotally from reading this site and my truck experience over time, it would seem that only grief comes with a lifted truck. More Grief with a poorly lifted truck, and exponentially more the higher you go.

IFS does not do great with lifts. Your clearance (at the Axle) will not change.

If you need to lift a taco - maybe you need a different vehicle.

My experience doing everything possible for months to max overall flex front and rear and viability for offroad use with 33"D tires at -25 offset, without lifting the front and back:
1" rear blocks/add a leaf, or much better, low lift springs over stock height, is almost a necessity for enough rear height to clear fenders and do anything high flex and carry any notable bed or passenger weight.

clearance at the axle comes with larger tires. So if you're looking to lift a vehicle to install a larger diameter tire, you're increasing axle to ground clearance. If you have a 30" tire and go to a 35", you're giving your axle an additional 2.5" of clearance.
IFS does just fine with lifts.

Perhaps stating the tire size you're wanting to throw under it would be helpful. Once you do skids, bumpers, and a winch, you're going to be heavy. The best advice I've ever seen on this site, that no one including you will listen to, just go use your truck how you want to use it. Once you find a limitation, replace the component that lacked. I get the feeling you'll be buying suspension 2-3 times because its not just about clearing big tires.

Holy smokes, so much hate for a lift question. From what I've seen on this forum; I'd say more of us are lifted than not...

I'll just shoot you straight; there is no happy medium. The trucks don't like it. If you modify one thing, you have to modify the next to accommodate and its an endless cycle. You need months worth of reading up through all of the stickied threads in the suspension/tire sections of the site if you want to know what you're getting into. Its not always as simple as just lifting to clear a tire. If the tires too big for the truck on the ground, its only made worse (usually) when lifting it up higher. There's too many factors that go into tire rub to simply say lifting x-amount is perfect for everyone. Things like wheel specs, alignment, chopping and cutting parts of the truck. Alot goes into making things not designed for the truck to go on the truck. But good news, it can be done. You just need to read up on the sticky threads to figure out what your goals are and how to accomplish them, because there is no happy medium vanilla solution that works for everyone. Unless you want to buy things twice (or more).

285/70/17 SL rated Toyo AT3s, 5100s on the 5th from the 4th setting. I run OEM 4Runner SEMA wheels, no rubbing, gret alignment and still have the factory mud guards. Hope this help, PM me if you need anything else.

Dang it I thought maybe by a mild lift and what not that I could get away from issues and still maintain the look and function needed. Looks like I will have to decide and do more research thanks for the insight some of the people on here are super helpful and others not so much but I appreciate you explaining that.

Agreed I’m reading and learning what I can and then asking some questions and some people are haters haha. Seemed so much easier to lift and throw some tires under my 2nd with no real issues

I did a CB drop (put spacers above the carrier bearing) when i lifted the rear
Lifted the front 2 inches with no issues, had to do the CV boot slide because the fins were touching. No issues so far-fingers crossed lol

Short answer: happy medium is 1.5-2 inches of lift
