Can’t remember where I saw that it made 80% of peak torque below 2000 rpm, can’t find it. My work commute it shifts around 1700-2000, if I drove in the 4-5K range would certainly rack up the speeding tickets and get my license revoked (again!). Can’t imagine winding it out like that running stop to stop during the commute. I do see dipshits that do that though, always wonder why they are in such a hurry, must have to constantly poop, cause I know when I have to poop…I am in a hurry… lol!

Still have my 1st Gen, that has plenty for what do. The 3rd Gen goes well beyond that.

These threads are always same, for some more power will never be enough, others are perfectly content.

I have a performance OTT tune and do not feel the engine is weak.

What ultimately leaves me thinking the 3.5 is actually a pretty great motor that Toyota strangled for us is driving when it’s still cold. Gobs of torque below 2000 RPM, snappy throttle response, no rev hang - it just ****ing rips.

I have apparently an “aggressive” tune that I flashed a couple months ago, and while it helps a ton, it’s not the “cold mode all the time” I was hoping for. There’s a great little motor still hiding in there, waiting to be released.

When I owned a house and had mortgage interest to itemize I tried to minimize my tax return ... why let the government benefit from $2000 no-interest-paid loan? Now I have no house so I am getting "average" return despite the "no interest paid" aspect.

I may use it pay part of a driving school nearby. They let you play with 500 HP manual Dodge Chargers and teach you many tricks. Pay enough and you can get a F4 (not F1 full professional) accreditation. I am old enough and I deserve it. :D

Right? I had a 5th gen ranger before trading in for a Taco, and the Ranger is a race car compared to the Taco. I didn't think that until owning the Ranger though. Before I bought the Ranger, I test drove the Taco first and didn't think it was sluggish at all.

I traded my 5th gen ranger in for my tacoma. They both felt about the same to me, acceleration wise. The Taco drives way better all around though, that is why i switched.
I love my Taco, hated the ranger.

Having had two 5th gen 4Runners, I'm surprised by folks who think it's faster than the 3rd gen Tacoma. I disagree.

The Taco's 6AT makes a noticeable difference over the 4Runner's 5AT, and that also contributes to acceleration for sure.
