Towing max load review

That is definitely one thing I noticed, the transmission is so much smoother. I rarely get about 2K RPMs for normal travel. I was constantly hitting 4K+ with my 3G. I've got a 18' boat I can test with soon.

Curious. You were constantly hitting 4K on your 3rd Gen for normal travel?

 

4k wouldn't be all that rare towing with a 3G considering it was designed as a passenger car engine.

 

When are you trading in your 2nd gen for 4th gen?

That was a joke, although I'm not sure how many miles you have accumulated on your 2nd gen or how well it's holding up.

 

I am at 93,000 trouble-free miles. Lurking here and waiting for more real-world data on Gen 4's. I got two small kids so leaning towards a Tundra as my next truck, especially since the gen 4's cab is stuffed with more insulation/material that makes the back seat tighter (I realize the cab is the same size but there seems to be less room when you sit back there. I sat in the back of a gen 4 at my local dealer). Haven't ruled out a Taco yet. Been driving Tacomas since 2008. I don't like daily-driving a full size but I might just have to get used to it.

 

Do you do any towing? If your main concern is rear legroom and you want to keep a smaller truck, the honda ridgeline is an option. Then again you may be able to get a good deal on a tundra from what I'm seeing...

 

I tow occasionally. Had a small Casita camper I would pull with my Tacoma but I sold it. Got too small for my family. I live in Wyoming so my Tacoma struggled with the crazy wind here. Will get a larger camper soon. Yeah, I am seeing a TON of Tundra inventory piling up at my local dealer. So much so they have to move Tundras to the back of the dealership in the repair shop lot. Maybe the pricing bubble is finally bursting?

It's hard to justify $60k+ on a depreciating asset. The SR5 Tundras can come well-equipped now and can be had for less. Might go that route.

 

Good luck with your decision, are you planning on test driving a 4th gen tacoma when it comes time to change? I'd be curious what you think of it.

Yeah I saw that, pretty impressive. Performed better than the 3rd gen while towing a heavier load.

 

I might test one once they are start piling up on lots. Saw 2 gen 4's a few days ago at my local dealer.

No, saw these two. The Tundras are getting overstocked at this local dealer. They are really packing them on the lot like sardines. You cannot even walk to between them they are parked so close. Will happen to the new Tacomas too after the newness of the gen wears off and if dealers keep up with crazy markups.

 

I don’t know but that Supersonic Red OR looks good.

 

But it beat your 4.0 in the gauntlet tow test from what I remember by close to a minute. Some car engine huh ?

 

But max load on 4th is less than 3rd gen. Guess they had to lower the weight pulled for the 4th gen test ?
