    Hey all, I’m installing my 2.0 external reservoir non adjustable (PN# 985-24-116) rear shocks on my 2018 Tacoma. I called fox and they said to adjust the top bolt enough for the bushings to be flush with the washers that come with it. Easy enough. My problem is that I can still turn the shock with my hand. Is this normal??

    Thinking about this more, I don’t think tightening them more would even help this because the bushings are separated from the shock body by those concave washers… thinking maybe this is just a common thing and something I had overlooked during my research. My concern is that the reservoir is attached to the shock body and if it rotated enough it could possibly start rubbing some other components…

    I would leave it as is, and check back after an off-road trip to see if anything changes. You really do not want to over tighten that nut. That stud is threaded into the shock body and we have seen them unscrew due to the nut being too tight.

    Thanks accutune! So now that I got the rears installed… Onto the coilovers. I got some 2.5’s w/ non-adjustable resi’s (part# 880-02-418) from them. Just called fox for some recommendations on preload for max suggested ride height, and they advised that these should come out of the box with preload set to max suggested ride height… that doesn’t align with what I’ve seen online, but I know that they are known change things on their suspension kits without issuing a new part number… looking for some suggestions. Currently have exactly 1 inch of threads showing (16 threads) on both COs… My questions are how many threads should I adjust the driver side to account for the infamous taco lean and then also are these really out of the box adjusted to max suggested ride height? I’m looking for a 2” lift on my 2018 DCSB SR5. Any suggestions are appreciated!!

    Had you bought from us, we could have gone over all these things with you ;)

    The coilovers you received came with a specific preload setting that is (what we are assuming) is for a stock weight Tacoma (not sure what model) for x lift height. In general, we will always recommend final adjustments to be made by the installer. Even when we do installs, we are making changes.

    How, why and where to make adjustments are detailed in this article below. Take a look at the chart showing our recommended max shock length at ride height. Threads showing does not equal preload. If you are wanting the best ride possible, these articles should be very helpful.

    Thank you for the article, have now read a few of your guys’ articles but hadn’t yet seen that one. I was mainly asking for recommendations because they are still not installed yet and I believe it will be easier (and also what is recommended) to adjust off truck as compared to on truck. I know I will likely still need to do some fine tuning post-install but just wanted to get it at least in the same ball park before installing so that my post-install adjustments are marginal. Is there not some universal recommendation for the difference in preload to accommodate for the taco lean though? When talking to fox they advised that 2 turns equates to 1/4” difference in ride height. So, with that in mind, I’m thinking I should bump up (aka tighten down) my drivers side CO 2 turns to get ahead of this.

    Unfortunately I do not have a specific number to start with. Every truck is different, so one truck may take more than the other. Maybe others can chime in with their experiences.

    How many threads you got showing here and also how much lift did it give you? About to install mine and want to get mine as close as possible to the max 2” of lift pre install as to have minimal adjustments to make post install

    Not sure on threads showing and to be honest to lazy to go count them. I think they were factory settings only adjustment was to fix the .25 inch taco lean

    Initial lift was just over 2.5 inches was something like 21.5/22.5 center hub to fender factory post lift 24/25. It's settled now so total lift is just about 2 inches center hub to fender 23.25/24.5

    Anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it?

    My lower shock mount keeps rotating until it hits the side of the LCA mount.

    It's basically a uniball bearing so if its completely worn out the inner bearing could be moving in the race. Mine are worn out, squeaking, but not moving yet. I need to send my shocks in for a tune up.

    Looking at some videos about worn lower mount bearings, I think mine is definitely shot. I’ll add those to my list and start there. Thanks!

    That can happen even with a new shock and or bearings. It's a bunch of cylinders that can rotate around the spherical bearings unfortunately.

    I have replacement bearings and the latest Fox lower spacers that have an O-ring to help keep the rod ends from turning.

    Is that the right shock? I ask because I just looked at mine and it touches both sides of the shock mount with no play. What version shocks are you running?

    Thanks! I also came across a post where someone got new equal length alignment spacers with poly bushings. Similar to tubular UCA pivots that filled the gap in the lower shock mount and prevented the rotation.

    It’s the right shock. Fox Factory Series 2.5 remote reservoirs with DSC.

    Something looks drastically off in this photo. There should be no gap between the inside surfaces of the LCA mounting tabs and the outside of the shock mounting eyelet.

    I just looked at my FOX 2.5" DSC front coilovers (installed on an otherwise-stock 2014 TRD OR with stock LCA's) and there is no gap at all. On my vehicle, as-installed, it is not possible for the shock mounting eyelet to rotate in any axis except the intended one, i.e. around the longitudinal axis of the mounting bolt.

    Do you have stock Toyota LCA's on your truck?
