Hello all, I have a 22 Tacoma and I have a question. I put a 3 inch lift in the front and 2 in the back. I had the truck a little over a month. Always drove and ride great. I get the lift installed today and instantly feel vibrating around 25MPH. The faster I get around 45-50MPH I start hearing a roar and vibration. Could it need a ECGS that quick?

    Easy answer is, yes.
The stock needle bearings have been known to fail quickly. Some have better luck than others.
Or did you install the after market one from ECGS? And it has failed??

Awesome, thank you for the quick response. I was just curious if that could happen.

Like I said, it’s drove perfect and today a 3 inch lift was installed and it completely went south after driving it a couple of miles. It started vibrating and roaring out of no where.

:anonymous: Should have installed the new needle bearing when the suspension was installed. Now lift needs to be taken out. Now you are paying double the labor and will also need a new alignment... Btw, did you get an alignment done after the lift was installed?

    an easy diagnostic is this:
drive truck in 2H - hear noise
put truck in 4H and noise should disappear
    = needle bearing failed

That sounds more like driveline angle problems due to the lift instead of the needle bearing.

So this is my first Tacoma so don’t know much about the lifts or what needs to be done. Always been in Rams. Yes I did get an alignment done after the fact.

As mentioned above. Could be a drive line issue. Heck it coud just be loose lug nuts. Sometimes.... 3 or 4 ugha dugas aren't good enough. Torqued to spec at 85lb.

Flip it into 4wd. if the noise goes away or get a lot quieter. It’s the needle bearing.

You can drive in 4WD in a straight(ish) line on pavement. It won’t hurt the truck.
It will be a little harder to steer. You won’t need to be in 4WD long to know.

You’ll be fine and should cost about $350-$400 to have a ECGS installed. But yeah mine needed to be replaced immediately after I had my lift installed as well. So far so good with the ECGS.

uhmmm no, there is no correlation between a 3" lift and vibrations that re-gearing would make any difference??? Once you get to about 6 inches of lift the rear portion of the driveshaft is about 2 inches to short, which pulls on the carrier bearing. Even in that situation re-gearing won't help. Example, I bought my truck brand new at the beginning of the year. I Put a 6" lift on it with 35's the 3rd week I had it. Of course a little vibration after that. The 4th week I had my brand new truck my new 3rd member with lower gears came in from ECGS. Has no effect on vibrations. From my 2nd gen builds I know once you go that high you need a new custom made driveshaft. So today I went by USA Driveline to start them building me a new custom 4" aluminum driveshaft because that is the only thing that will fix the vibrations. Re-gearing has nothing to do with vibrations from a lift. With only 3" lift your vibrations are from driveline, not differential. Trust me, or you will spend countless hours and dollars chasing gremlins that are not there. Plus, with a 3" lift what tires are you running 285's? Your wasting money re-gearing for that. wait to spend the money once you get larger/heavier tires.

He's talking about replacing the needle bearing in the front differential for a bushing made by ECGS. He's not talking about a regear. However, I understand the confusion, as ECGS also sells loaded diffs and does gear work.

Where did he say anything about regearing? I think you made an assumption…most likely due to the ECGS mention. But he’s talking about a bushing they sell that supports the CV. Lift puts load on a needle bearing in the factory front diff carrier, and replacing with a bushing helps fix the vibes the bearing can have when lifted.

And actually, if you have driveline vibrations at a certain speed, you’d definitely have them start at an earlier speed if you regeared because now the driveline is spinning faster for a given speed. But that’s not what any of this thread is about.

I think he is talking about the bushing that replaces the needle bearing.
    Not a regear.
