Toyota PR will need to get creative on this one. SR and SR5 will be "Temp" and the others will be "Full Size Temp". Or how about "Full Size Donut"? Or "Skinny Full Size"? Anything but listing the actual tire size to be provided...

The industry term is “Convenience Spare.”

Famous? Hardly. I wrote that and put a link above.

And I'm certainly not going to defend Toyota here. I will say Adam is a good guy and has a pretty sweet Lexus GX 470 with a lift and big tires. He is relaying information engineering has provided to marketing. Wires may have gotten crossed for sure.

Also, TRD Jon just looked at his spare on his TRD Off-road Tacoma and it is a different size than his stock tire (245/75/17 where my trucks tires are 265/70/17). I wonder if Toyota calls that spare "full-size."

I wonder how many attorneys it will take to pin down a legally defensible definition of "full size spare".

Pretty sure (from every pic I've seen) that all trims produced so far have temp spares that approximately match the O.D. of the driving tires. Definitely not matching full size and the SR/SR5 not even approaching matching the width. "Full-size temp" may be the best description but even that doesn't really capture the shock of how skinny the the SR/SR5 spare is. They should list the full tire size/designation if they want to avoid 7 page threads and news articles.

In your years of truck reviews have you ever seen one come with a temporary spare?

What pisses me off the most is that Toyota is forcing $75 USB cables, $900 predator steps and other stuff buyers don’t want on them yet can’t even provide a real full-size spare tire. Greedy scum bags.

I know that GMC has sometimes rushed out pick up trucks and SUVs with mismatched spares like it’s no big deal. I just wanna make sure that if you ever buy one of these, a normal full-size matching spare will fit.

Yeah, I would gladly pass on the chrome exhaust tip for a full size MATCHING spare.

Honestly, I never paid that much attention to a spare. It just isn't something I normally look at when I review a truck. I've thought about doing a short video discussing oil type, intervals, cabin air filter placement, spare tire, etc... I'm just not sure if it would be worth the effort.

60k for an OR trim with no spare I can trust. This deal keeps getting better daily.

usually I like excuses to buy new wheels and tires

I would be interested. Those are things owners will have to find out eventually. Would like to see how those new accessory button panels are wired. Would like a peek at the main and cabin fuse boxes. I saw a oil pressure read out somewhere? That is new. Transmission drain and fill plugs. Chat, please chime in.

it's a bit of semantics at this point. "full size spare" is kind of what you have... I do think its stupid to put a non matching tire on a spare for a truck. I have a matching tire on my 2022 (i think, i did on my 2017 I should check hahaha) so while shiesty, I don't think toyota is misleading anyone.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The dealer agreed with me, and Toyota didn't disagree, they just avoided answering the question.
It'll be interesting to see what the distributor, GST says later today when I speak with them.
