I just Installed my Icon ext. travel coilovers, and was just adjusting them. And I noticed I had to go up to 2" of thread showing on the drivers side to get it to 3" of lift, and the passenger side only 1.5" of threads are showing......

I know about the taco lean, But a .5" of thread difference is crazy!
Are these coilovers a 2:1 ratio? (.5"=1" lift)
    Or not?

Oh! and I did drive it around before re-measuring.

Thanks for any insight to this....

0.5" doesnt really surprise me. Mine leaned by more then that before I put a top plate spacer on the driver side. Your coilovers are a "1:2" ratio as are all front end lifts for the tacoma

Could I do a 1/2" top plate spacer on the drivers side and a 1/4" one on the passenger?

Or do one just on the drivers side?

Mine needs about a 3/8ths difference from side to side to be levelish from the taco lean...in other words, driver has about 3/8ths more thread showing.

The 2:1 ratio is a factor of the control arm articulation geometry, not the type of coilover.

As long as both sides are within 1/4", call it good.

I would NOT add a spacer. Dicks up the point of getting adjustable coilovers in the first place.

Also: Pro Tip: LUBE THE ADJUSTMENT COLLAR AND THREADS. REGULARLY. You'll thank yourself next time you need to tweak them.

    k. but thats a good idea to do a top plate spacer on the drivers side.. But is it safe or a good thing to do?

    Safe? Maybe. Good? No.

Just adjust them offset and be happy. What's the issue here?

I just think it would be nice to have both side close to the same preload, instead of one side being stiffer then the other... But if its not that big of deal. Then im fine with how it is.

I seriously doubt you're going to notice any difference that matters.

May I recommend some aftermarket bumpstops to complete your cushy front-end ride?

Nah! I think I wil be fine with the stock ones for now....

Are you running a sway bar Jandrews?
I just put mine back on bc of the onroad body roll. But I noticed it felt better over bumps without it.

God no. That thing came off, I went for one test drive in between suspension adjustments, and it hasn't been back near my truck since.

Yeah my coilovers where about a .5 inch different because of the lean.

So who can tell me if its bad to put a top plate spacer on the Icons?

Say 1/2" driver side 1/4" passenger....
    Is there any negative effects?

just crank up the preload a little if you want the lift.

Im trying to decrease the preload on the springs to soften up the ride. But I dont want to do it if it could damage ball joints ect.

The teflon stuff for the uniballs works fine for that purpose too.

I ordered a 1/4" top plate spacer for the driver side. So that the coilover doesnt have so much preload.
