They said ~$5k over MSRP for TRD ORs.

Yep. All of them have distributor and dealer add ons. I think it was ~$2500 in total add ons.

Joe Myer. Closest to my house that had a 2024 and a few used 2023s for me to sit in. Im shopping for my first Tacoma.

Why do I feel like this is only with a trade, and local buyers.

Ive been texting Richard, who claims to be one of the sales managers at Elgin Toyota. He quoted me the price they show on their website plus IL Doc Fee, out of state temp tag fee, Vin tag fee, plus TTL for my state. Zero additional dealer or distributor costs.
I will 100% fly to Chicago and roadtrip home when the color/trim I am looking for shows up.

I picked up my new 2024 Tacoma TRD Sport in the Underground color, on Feb.15 off the lot.
It had apparently only hit the lot 2 hours earlier when my wife saw it and texted me about it.
We drove back out together and drove it then put $1000 down to hold it and then came back the next day to close the deal. We bought her a new 23 Tundra last May and she had been pressuring me to finally upgrade my daily driver for the last 24 yrs, a manual shift, 98 Ford Ranger single cab Sort Side 4x4 with 298,600 miles on it. I really like the new Tacoma but it sure is taking me awhile to get used to everything being digital display mostly operated and selected from 16 different switches on the steering wheel (8 on each side). That doesn't include all the different controls and information available on the 12" Multimedia screen in the middle of the dashboard. I have a lot to learn!

Yeah for real, I felt lucky reserving a TRD OR for msrp and got them to remove the stupid paid protection stuff. Now i'm debating on just cancelling things and wait. I'd rather have the TRD Upgrade or Premium package and would go for it if there are deals out there. That Elgin dealer has premiums listed for only like 4k more than my base model OR.

Seems pretty good then. I'm no lawyer but I'd get something in writing / signed, etc, etc. before you book anything.

Well according to their website there is a Richard that works there as a manager. For sure ask him for a selfie to make certain, then tell him "I swear I'm not a weirdo, I moved out of moms basement last year". I will add in all seriousness, that I also bought my truck from a Chicago area dealer. They seem to be more aggressive in price and don't care about forcing unnecessary adds. I would absolutely go back to the dealer I bought from again.

When I was ‘22 hunting, Elgin pulled some ~$3k ceramic/scotchbrite protection pack nonsense on me when I was about to leave a deposit. Proceed with caution.

Does that TFL broken Tacoma video make anyone have reservations about buying now, or cause you to wait a while longer ? I know my 4R ORP isn't going anywhere anytime soon. 4R has been through a lot more than that and never missed a beat.

Did anyone cancel their 3rd gen orders or have reservations when that model had 4wd actuator issues?

No, not that I am ready to buy one yet, but whatever broke will be fixed by either Toyota or the aftermarket. (hopefully)

Also there are freak accidents with nearly all vehicles out there. People break tie rods on the new Bronco's pretty commonly, some 3rd gen engines just fail prematurely, the new Colorado/Canyon has their share of issues.

I'd like to see a larger sample size of 4G owners, and what failures they see, if any. One driveline failure is not enough to conclude there's a major issue here.

I’ve owned 10 Tacomas and 1 pre-Tacoma, traded in the 23 about 4 months ago for a non-Tacoma. Looking forward to the review’s. There might be an 11th in my future, or another 4Runner.

I’ve bought from Elgin. They are some times tool bags when negotiating but do have the best deals from the 3 I bought in the Chicago region.

its predicting stuff like this happening, 4wd failing on routine offroad conditions not even 4000 miles in. I don't get where all this confidence comes from for a first model year vehicle, and one with a turbo at that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svD7Mx2xius

1 truck is clearly indicative of the entire production run of 2024 Tacomas.
